Great sounding Country LP's

I have vol's 1, 2 &3 of "circle be unbroken " , vol 1 is cool as it has the real old timers on it , vol 2 has some rock/folk/new country guys on it and to me is the best one of that series . Vol 3 never struck me and have only listened to it a few times . But a great rock/CW lp is the Dirt Band's "Symphonian Dream " , somebody was high when this was recorded :nono:
 
I think Charlie Daniel could be considered country. "Nightrider" is another good one besides "Fire on the Mountain". I love Call up Trudy on the telephone.

Tonight I got in the mood to put on some bluegrass, pickup my Martin HD28V and jam along. Well what did I find. A copy of Will The Circle Be Unbroken Vol 2 on CD. Listened to the whole thing while playing along. I forgot I even had this. I used to have Vol 1 on Vinyl but over the years lost alot of my vinyl from the 70's and 80's. Now I'm going to have to go on the hunt for it.
 
I don't know if this came out on LP, but it is available on SACD:
"Blue Country Heart" by Jorma Kaukonen. Great front-porch picking with stunning sound, whether run in SACD or regular 2-channel.

And big seconds (thirds/fourths) for "Will the Circle be Unbroken"; the liner notes on the LP set says it was cut live in the studio to a 'recorder with big teeth' which I assume to mean a 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch mastering deck.

If you are into Western Swing, "For the Last Time" features Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys on a 2-LP boxed studio set on the last week-end he was to record. He fell into a coma on the night of the second tracking day. Between the many decades between their last engagement before this session, and the fact that that was his end, a great document, done with beautiful analog sound.

Some notes: Modern Country and Southern Rock are basically similar. And most every Southern Country station played Southern Rock on their playlists to some extent so I accept it as Country Music then and now. So, Charlie Daniels got lots of Country airplay, Country music lovers as a rule accept him.

Recommendation:

Amazing Rhythm Aces: Stacked Deck and Too Stuffed To Jump. Excellent mix of Country, Americana, and Rockabilly. Knoxville, TN was their home base. They made terrific records. Stacked Deck should be in every record collection.
 
Indeed, female country vocals never bettered. Sad to lose her in 1963. Patsy Cline Decca monos are a treat to your ears. k.d. lang's "Shadowland" is the closest any modern singer ever got (also produced by Owen Bradley)
 
I have an early copy of this one and it sounds great... the quintessential honky-tonk album:

Not to threadcap, but here's an interesting piece of trivia. When Patsy Cline died, her funeral was the largest ever in the state of Virginia. Her music is timeless.

Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. is another awesome sounding Yoakum album.

John Hiatt also puts out some fine sounding records. :yes:
 
Slow Turning and Bring The Family by John Hiatt are incredible sounding albums. There's a Bring The Family MFSL pressing that I'd love to get my hands on. I'm not sure if I'd call these albums "country" though. I'm sure country music fans could get into these albums, as they are masterpieces.

I also agree that Dwight's records sound great. Another favorite of mine is Guy Clark- The South Coast Of Texas. I have a VG+ pressing of this with a few pops, but I use it to audition cartridges. One of Clark's best, IMO.

I just pulled out that CD to find the lick I was talking about , track 7 , 1:14 but listening on headphones pretty sure it is a J45 not a Martin ? Have a listen and tell me what you think ? But a well recorded short lick it is non the less :music:

I sometimes buy from this record dealer an hour away from me that I met at a record show. I just checked their database and got him to put aside for me, Dwight Yoakam guitars and cadillacs buenos noches as well as a couple Desert Rose Band albums and they had KD's Shadowland on vinyl as well. So on your recomendation I asked him to put that aside for me and I'll be picking them up on Saturday.
 
Great Sounding and Country is easily said and true. Back in the glory days, some of the best sonics ever came from Nashville studios. Ray Price's "Night Life" is a classic.
 
It's not a genre I have a lot of but I do have 2 albums by Boxcar Willie which are a knockout 1 Boxcar Willie 2 My Daddy was a Railroad Man

I hope you like Shadowlands. I think it's a great album, both sonically and in terms of vocal chops from k.d.
