Pathfinder

The boot tracks were old.
The soles were worn and faded
By decades of use.
Hardly a mark had been left
As nature now reclaimed them.

I know some "souls" who are "old, worn and faded"...but wouldn't dare call them that!

Adrenaline filled
with staccato beats
pounding morse code signs
to flight or fight as needed
in a split-second time frame!

Trying to fight off winter,
But it is too late,
The cold caress has numbed them,
leaving them no choice but sleep.

Brittle wind swept leaves,
Sounding like small castanets.
The only music
Heard in this frigid landscape.
A bleak and lonely concert.
