That's exactly why so many bikers are killed and maimed every year. Loud pipes save lives!

Most of the people who cause a wreck with a motorcycle are driving with their head up their @$$ and would have hit a bus just as easy as the bike. With the windows up, the stereo blazing, and talking on the cell phone, loud pipes don't do a damn thing. IMHO

I had a guy who worked for me for a few years that once had a motorcycle wrecking yard. He rode a big old ???? Harley that he had mated a Honda Goldwing engine to. He was big enough to stop most fights he got into.

I think we could fix both motorcycles at the same time by putting that Renault F1 engine in place of the existing engines on both bikes.

Harley's technology is much better than it used to be, currently they are being dragged kicking and screaming into the '90's. And their marketing stomps Bose into the dirt. Remember when there was all the noise during the '04 elections about moving jobs offshore? HD's CEO said they would never move manufacturing from the US - well, duh. The company would implode & he'd have to hide in a cave in Kazakhstan to avoid getting lynched.

The Honda sound-clip reminds me of how the little scooters sounded when I was a kid growing up in the sixties. Monkey-Wards and Sears imported bunches of the little shits back then and you could hear them two blocks away! We called them "Sears Wing-Dings".

Too bad Britten died prematurely. He had a killer bike just built and was ready to go into production when he died. His early work on the Moto Guzzi V-twins was masterful and the reason they won the "Battle of the Twins" for so many years. Forgotten the name of the dentist who did most of the riding in the U.S. at the beginning. Had a '81 CX-1000 first few years out of school and then a Euro-spec '84 850 LeMans (bought from Harper's) with LaFranconi exhaust. Was a wonderful bike in the twisties (unless were slow and sharpe - that 58" wheelbase and 530 pounds was incredibly stable, but not on short/sharpe curves, where it was real work) and it sounds just like your link. Always a head-turner and a real pleasure to strut up and down the main drag in New Hope, PA on a nice Sunday morning until the wise city fathers kicked MCs out of town. Would be a thousand or so bikes (mostly Harley posers) on a good day.

Funny story is that the guy I used to go to and was the MG dealer in Center City Philadelphia is now "The Tuner Guy", who many may know of from eBay, Audiogon and the web. Last time I dropped by to kick tires about 4 years ago he had to two bikes and about 3-400 pieces of vintage gear, mostly tuners. Great minds must think alike.

A number of years ago when Honda released their Hurricane sport bike I was reading a motorcyle magazine. It had a two page ad for the new Hurricane depicting all the high tech, state of the art features of the bike. A few more pages into the same magazine Harley had a two page ad that showed a picture of a Harley with a big heading that said: "We don't leak oil anymore."

These two ads pretty much summed up the difference between the two companies. One cutting edge and the other trying to get a grip on basic technology.
