Harman Kardon Citation Eleven on vacation

While on vacation in FL, a local pawn has a Harman Kardon Citation Eleven preamp for 2 franklins. Looks in good shape. I have not tested it yet. Would it be worth considering?

I got an 11 preamp and 12 deluxe amp for that much about 6 mos ago from CL. Haven't plugged either in yet. 200 seems a bit steep from a pawn since you'll not get a warranty. Don't know how good these units sound, but with the rounded edge wood case they look uber cool! No recent ebay sales to compare to.

Citation 11 and 12

I own two Citation 11 preamps and one Citation 12 power amp. They are both great sounding units. The preamp has a rather forward sound overall, with a very nice phono section. It is a very heavy piece of gear. Just look at the thick aluminum faceplate and the heavy-duty knobs. The over-build continues on the inside. The Citation 12 is a legendary power amp. I have it driving a pair of Pioneer DSS-7 speakers with dual voice-coil woofers. I can tell you that the Citation 12 delivers amazingly clean sound across the entire audio spectrum. The bass is amazingly clean and true, and these speakers reproduce it beautifully. A hundred dollars is a very good price for the preamp, and one seventy five would be a good price for the amp--all in working condition. These are really classic pieces.

A Citation 11 for $200 is ridiculously high. Don't be sucked in. $100 would be too much too.

I didn't buy it. I assume it is still sitting there. This place was high priced on most everything he had.

Assuming they are in good condition, IMHO the price is relative to what your looking for, if they are indeed.
If they haven't been recapped-they will probably need it at some point, and transistors re-heat sinked etc.

Most pawn shops are willing to entertain counter-offers. If you know what it's worth, and counter based on that, the worst they can say is "no way".
