Agreed. He has some good solutions for Denon and marantz, but so far I've resisted for my McIntosh, just haven't seen any really good conversions.

On the 2255 vs the 2155 however, there is more space with the larger face, my 2255 (with original bulbs) has no evident heat damage from the meter bulbs.

The MC2205/MC2255 don't seem to have the same heat issues as the fuse lamps have on the MC2125/2155.

The only drawback is that they're quite bright.

IIRC, there was a post on this somewhere, maybe years ago. I made LED lights from standard LED tape lighting for a display case at my parents house- having the same problem.

I solved it with a PWM LED dimmer in series with the LED's.

My voltage was 12, so selecting one was easy, but a quick search on Amazon for "LED dimmer pwm" showed me a 3 to 35 volt miniature dimmer for $7. Happyskmall marswell.

What worried me in the old post was that I'd intentionally added an oscillator into a power device. (I was more worried that Chris would call me on it)

LED wont work on the C33 type faceplate with the way the light is diffused, I just use the long life incandescent, they will last years and look correct.
There is no reason to re-invent the wheel......

I pulled the faceplate, wired up one of the LEDs, and held it in place on the faceplate. It did not illuminate all the words for the mode selector. I will not be installing the LEDs.

Just a note to endorse Dave and his bulb service. I just received replacement bulbs with pigtails for a C30.
