Has something recently changed on AK?

The reason I ask, is more and more, my Macbook Pro, my iPad, and my iPhone stall when doing things. The fan goes into turbo mode, writing becomes painfully slow, and it is getting very frustrating to do anything on AK other than browse. I get this with facebook, and sometimes with kijiji, but that is it.

So has something changed?

I noticed that there are a lot more ads with video, and I'm wondering if that is it. I see that on kijiji and facebook.

Or perhaps the video ads are causing something to break? Semi compatible with the OS I am using?

I've also noticed it on my windows box when I read the news. Lots of video there.

Anyway, it is impacting my interaction with AK and I want it to go away. I won't be upgrading my laptop, iPad, and iPhone. It doesn't ad to the site experience, in fact, I think it very much detracts from it. Might be better to use a different approach if many others are also experiencing this issue.

Just putting it out there.

What are your experiences?

Thanks! I have decided to download Firefox and will run with it for a while to see if this resolves things. the second link describes my issues.

The last time I downloaded Firefox(years ago), I was tired and pissed off at Safari, and reacted. The result, a very nasty trojan was installed on my MacBook Air. This time I did my research and went directly to the source. Hopefully nothing nasty shows up.

I feel bad now. No problems here at all. I did notice a LOT more ads a bit back (thought I was subscribing to get away from those) but nothing so far that my ad blocker can't handle. I might see a top banner every now and then when I first fire up the site, but a quick refresh kills that and it don't come back.

Might help to post what browser you're using if you're experiencing problems. I'm on Firefox with auto updates enabled. Currently using AdBlock (free) Ghostery, and Avast free website security. AdBlock shows 3 blocked ads on this page, Avast blocked 3 trackers, and I've got an uberkill addon that puts a digital stake in all social trackers.

I am similar to sKiZo using Win7, Firefox, Adblock Plus (free), no Ghostery on this one, Avast free and with Firefox enhanced tracking protection on ads are limited. Tried Explorer and Chrome basic setups to access site recently as a test and those were a mess and would drive me crazy. Too many obnoxious ads trying to take over. The images and video demand can load up a machine quickly.

Like the Acer desktop I am typing this on. Got it free years ago it was so plagued with adware and crapware on it the owner just wanted it gone. Try to go to a website after booting up and a massive number of windows would open up. Tried a number of popular free tools none killed it for long. Finally tried Avast free's boot scan that finally killed it for good.

For those who want to know, I was running Safari on my iPad and MacBook. Now I’m on Firefox on both. So far everything is working fine, and I can type things with no delay.

I did install a Mac Security Update earlier this week.

No worries Heather. I was just being lazy as I really don’t think it is OS related. It may have to do with how safari in iPad running iOS 11.4.1 and Mac OS El Capitan 10.11.6 and safari 11.1.2 work though. Another side note I am seeing is my battery is not draining nearly as fast. Could be coincidence. Time will tell.

Developers keep coming up with new ways to force us to see things we really aren’t interested in, and other developers keep coming up with ways to bypass the first.

I spent most of my career troubleshooting for Digital, Compaq, and HP. Now I just want things to work. :)

My IPad has had trouble typing for quite a while now. No problems with my PC running Windows 7 and protected by PC Matic.

I've had to reboot my computer (Mac) numerous times due to freezes from the new advertising crap campaign.

Get a whole bunch of ads at the bottom but doesn't seem to be materially affecting load speed, freeze ups, or whatever for me. :dunno:
