I don't have pads or pods or phones or tablet. Use PC exclusively. Running Firefox Mozilla with the following ad ons. Never see the first ad.

I agree, as I have no problems with an eight year old desktop running Linux. A pity about problems with mobile devices, as this is likely to cut down participation.
My iPhone occasionally reloads the page a couple times a day but that’s the only “problem”, which is really a none problem. My PC’s and Kindle are fine.

This is sort of why I started this thread. I am certain it will affect content as it has affected my content. I much prefer browsing with my iPad, and I figured AK management should be informed on what is going on on this site. Clearly, from the responses I am seeing to this thread, this is affecting a lot of users.
I had been meaning to add to this thread sooner, but I was using my iPad with iPad Safari, because I don't want to log back in every time I reopen my firefox window on the iPad. Now I am on my MacBook Pro with Firefox. No problems!
There are a few threads with the same member's posting.
Edit: including mods, the company doing the ads and I think a couple of the AK IT types.

With the Mac, Catalina is current (OSX 10.15.6 - as of July 15, 2020), tho Big Sur (OSX 11) will be coming this fall.

El Capitan (10.11) goes back to Sept 2015, and 5 year old releases are considered "vulnerable" in terms of safety on the internet.

Very true. But I have to live with that. Like many others, I refuse to upgrade from a perfectly good machine just because Big Corp wants me to run the latest toys. If I was more adventurous, I would build a linux system. But I'm done with playing around all the time. Not my thing anymore.
Well, if you are having compatibility issues while surfing the web, its not because "Big Corp" wants you to upgrade,
its actually the web developers, hackers and bad actors who are calling the shots. Malware and such doesn't come from "Big Corp."
Thats why I run a tower type machine - so I can do hardware upgrades and keep my old machine useful.
I thought I was done last time, but I bought a PCIe card and NVMe SSD drive last month to speed up booting.

I may upgrade my Mac Pro in the near future. I need to max out the RAM and put in an SSD for the system disk. I like towers too for exactly the same reasons, but not when I'm relaxing in the living room, or when I'm in the family room, and definitely not on the deck. The reason I haven't done it yet is because my work space has been my living room sofa. But I was talking with my wife about this last week. The office had been temporarily changed to a storage room 4 years ago when we started the renovations. I think it is time it went back to it's old role. I even use an Ikea Jerker desk in that room! Love those desks!
Finally, I really don't think it is a compatibility issue so much as it is increased video advertising content, and ads that push the limits of the technology. The thing is, if you are advertising and people stop watching your ads because they really detract from the user experience, who are you selling to? I agree that Malware doesn't come from Big Corp. But this change at AK is not Malware. It is a misuse of my computing resources.
And the reason I say that is that only AK and Facebook are causing these issues for me. The other sites I visit are fine. Or I don't visit them.
Again, since I installed Firefox on my MacBook, no more issues, so it is clear to me the issue is the content I'm being forced to look at or the content in the background chewing up my resources.

Win 10 with Chrome browser and Adblock - zero issues. Android phone with stock Samsung browser (even though Chrome is installed) and Adblock - zero issues. Have also used Fire (Android based) tablets with stock browser and no ad blocker without issue. Am I seeing a trend here with older, portable iOS devices being predominantly the issue?

I have Linux running on several machines. All are fully updated and running the latest version of Firefox. I always have uBlock Origin and Ghostery running on them. No problems.
I recently turned them off just to see if some broken images would load. When getting on AK, the CPU use immediate went through the roof, and Firefox kept trying to "load" stuff. There were all kinds of ads too, especially at the bottom of the page.
The blockers immediately went back on.
