HDD or SSD?

Well, at least, if it seems way to good to be true - whereas merely too good to be true might as well mean, that one just isn't yet aware of a recent price drop. But the latter typically isn't hard to check for, if one uses one of the established price comparision sites and checks for price differences between both different vendors and very similar products from different brands. And of course "way to good to be true" not only refers to the price levels in established capacity steps, but also to capacity steps from 3rd tier/NoName brands, which the top and 2nd tier brands haven't reached yet.

I have a Microcenter near me and they have some of the best prices going on electronics and particularly computer components. I use them as a benchmark on what is a very good deal on many items. Right now they have several 2TB SSDs for $70-$80 so anything that is substantially lower in price, or higher in capacity, should be looked at closely for being fraudulent.

don't leave ssds dangling and don't tell others that it's ok to do so.

<snip>.

but i guess if you are ok to spend $100 on a good ssd for your os and just leave it dangling and leave the fate of your entire computer relying on a dangling ssd then you are free to do so. not me.
I'll bite. Why?

For me, anything that uses the USB interface would simply be a backup of a backup. My backup drives are installed as the second drive on all of my Thinkpads. On Thinkpads the second drive is used on a removable drive carriage that can be used on various different Thinkpad models. The CD/DVD drive can also be used in the removable slot.

After I had a Seagate HDD dump on me, I have pretty much decided to stick with Seagate HDDs because when that drive died, I sent it back to Seagate. They replaced it and then removed the actual discs, from the dead drive and put the info onto a separate USB portable drive and sent that to me too. I am just not yet satisfied as to the reliability of the SSD drives.
