What are the Best Headphones to buy at any budget?

I use Grado SR-125 and AKG K701, don't get me wrong the K701 are great sounding cans. Much better then the Grado 125.

Another must have cans I will love hear is the Grado RS1 but they are so darn expensive. Maybe one day if they sell half price I might go for one.

I like Headphones that sound Deep, Dynamic and very detailed. Bit like my TDL 0.75M speakers.

Even the least expensive Stax phones are good. They are all electrostatic. I am a fan of the ESL sound. I use ESL's for my main listening.
Stax phones sound like ESL speakers. They have the kind of bass response headphone users expect. However, it is ESL bass and quite different than moving coil speaker bass. If you've ever heard some Quad ESL57's imagine them with better bass and small enough to wear on your ears. If you end up liking Stax phones my advice is buy the best ones you can afford.
BTW, I'm a big vinyl fan myself. I play vinyl as much if not more than CD's.
 
I don't like HP's. I gave my Stax SRD-40's to a buddy for late night listening. My ESL's provide all the listening pleasure I want.
 
I'm a huge fan of the Grado sr-225's. I had a pair of the Allesandro ms2's and still prefer the 225's.A real bang for the buck headphone in my opinion.Just curious-are you using a headphone amp to drive the AKG's ?
 
You might want to have a listen at the Sennheiser 600 or 650 . Between those, the Grado, and the AKG, you'll have pretty much heard the spectrum of sound thats available in the hundreds of dollars, everything else is either much worse, or is similar to one or a mixture of those three.
 
I have heard that the original Stax SR-Lambdas are one of the better offerings from Stax. I have the Lambda Pro's and they are amazing. The only problem is they need a converter box and a lot of power to drive them, so home use only.
 
I got me a pair of RCA wireless headphones from radio shack (well, here in Canada, it's now called 'The Source' by Circuit City... same thing, same products, but instead of Optimus, there's Nexxtech... complete crap, but i won't get into that).

They have great sound quality, and the range is pretty good when you use Energizer Lithium batteries. I can listen to my stereo from anywhere in the house, and yard.

BTW I'm an RCA freak, as you may probabally know.
 
I have 3 pairs of Grados (SR-60, SR-325 & RS-1), 3 pairs of Senns (HD-650, HD-600 & HD-414) and a Stax Lambda Pro system. My vote for best all-around HP goes to the RS-1 coupled with a Grado RA-1 amp. The Stax is just too "dry" for my taste - no excitement. I really do enjoy the 600 and 650 but only with certain types of music - jazz, classical, accoustic and vocal-heavy. Rock & Roll just sounds weird through the Senns. It seems to loose it's impact. The RS-1s, IMO, do everything well. Just a great sounding pair of cans. BTW, I also own a pair of Sony CD-300. Probably the most comfortable pair I own and extremely detailed but if you're not careful, these suckers will make your ears bleed - a "little" on the bright side. YMMV, it's all subjective.:music:

I did use a Headphone amp only temporarily with K701, It was my Dad's Musical Fedility x-can V2. It was a match made in heaven with the K701.
 
If I wanted to look out for some AKG K340 Headphones, is it the best to get a pair that has been modified? And how would these oldies compare to the K701?
 
I like the AKG K702 but if you want the best IMHO try the Denon Ah-D2000 you will NOT be sorry √!.

I don't think that Denon AH-D2000 would better the K701 really. If I was going for the Denon, I would maybe go for the higher models, the ones with the red cups.

All of a suden I'm getting curious about the Old AKG K340 headphones. It would be nice to hear them.
