Help connecting multiple decks

The 3 switches in the upper row would select which of the three decks to receive the signal from your receiver. Normally that would be the source you selected with your input selector on your receiver radio, phone, cd or Aux (whatever they call it on your receiver) The selected source, would be sent to the amplifier section in your receiver, as well at it will be sent to the jacks - on your receiver - called "Rec out" ( or tape out)

The upper switches can also choose between the signal from your receiver - or the signal on the dubbing bus.

The lower row, selects which tapedecks signal would be send to either your receivers Tape in (tape playback) or to the dubbing bus.

By combination, you can copy between 3 decks -

Last switch determines if the signal to your receiver (What you would hear, when the Tape monitor button on your receiver is pressed) is from deck 1, 2 or 3 - or the signal on the dubbing bus

John did you hook up your controller? I found several of my old RCA cables were bad and replaced them. I have it all hooked up now, thanks to Jan and several others who PM me. So far mine is working on all three decks and it is quiet:thmbsp: Nice to not have to unhook my Revox and mess with the cables all the time in the den. Thanks for the link on Epay, as I purchased that one. Good $15.00 controller, I was suprised the Realistic is quiet when I have the R2R recording and pause it to flip a LP and turn up the amp to check for feed back etc... After Christmas I will look for a DBX 400 or 200 series and move this one to the bedroom with my other Akai R2R and cassette recorder.

Get a McIntosh MX130. This unit was originally marketed as an audio/video device, the but the video is all analog, which means no one wants it now. That translates to a reasonable price for what it is.
Just forget the video stuff, and use the audio (which is all analog).
This unit has two audio tape input/output sets of jacks AND two VCR input/output sets of jacks. Just treat the VCR jacks as audio tape units and you have four tape input/output sets.
This unit has a "dual path" circuitry, meaning the record switching is separate from the listening switching. I used it to digitize120LPs ad 192k/24bit using the record circuitry while my was watched Oprah using the listening circuitry. Absolutely NO crosstalk.
This unit as 12 inputs, so you can route any of 12 source components to any (or all) of four tape decks.
Short of a rack mounted patch panel, it is the most flexible pre-amp/tuner I know of.

I doubt you can achieve your goal without some sort of patch bay or a couple of simple multi source to one output devices.
My only experience with something like your description was not successful. (I think I am understanding that you are proposing some sort of daisy chain of two components on one tape loop?)
The downstream component that was recording (2nd on the chain) had terrible level and noise issues on the recording.

Some simple passive switches that allow say 2 inputs to 1 output might do the trick, but you will still be pushing buttons to select the correct path on multiple devices.

However, I bet someone else out there has rigged up something more elegant. There are a lot of very clever AKers out there.

I got a AKAI EA-A7 Computerized Graphic Equalizer which has LINE IN and LINE OUT RCA connections. I go from REC OUT \ PLAY IN on the TAPE 1 to LINE IN and LINE OUT on my AKAI EA-A7 Computerized Graphic Equalizer which gives me an additional Tape 1 and TAPE 2 options. Now I have two tape decks running from one Tape option on my receiver. They are daisy chained through the equalizer. It works for me just fine. It is an expensive solution. Maybe find an equalizer with the same functions that is also cheaper.
