In one of the best "Married with children" eposodes Al encounters that same problem - he's got a song stuck in his head and can't figure out who sings it - all he can remember is "mmm with him". So somebody tells him there's a guy a 100 miles away who can recognise any song by one note. Of course Al drives there, but the guy does not recognise it
