Help with new receiver

I picked up a Teac AG-75 from GW for $25. Is it possibly to hook up my MCS Turntable up to it? It has phono plugs, but I am not certain if it has a preamp, or if I need one?

Sorry for the basic questions, I am very new to this.

If it has a phono input, you should be fine. Be sure to hook up the ground wire (if the TT has one) to the ground screw on the receiver too.
 
I am going to take a guess, as I am not familiar at all with turntables. But, I hope I have picked up a little info here. Lol. If the inputs are labeled as "phono" then it has a built in phono preamp. The question is, does your TT have its own built in phono preamp? If so, you cant use the phono inputs on the receiver - use another set of inputs. AGAIN... this is just a guess. Please wait for more replies.

Thank you very much! The reason I bought this is I believe I was swindled by a local sellser (or I am just an idiot), but I have a Sherwood receiver that on one of the channels on the phono all I get is a hum. I have messed with the connections and I believe it is that specific channel, or preamp. So I bought this one for cheap to verify that it works at all. Would you recommend trying to repair a Sherwood receiver? I paid $100 for it, so not sure how worth it it would be.
 
Depends on the model - which Sherwood model # is it?

I checked your Teac receiver. It does have phono inputs, so you’ll be fine.
 
If your Sherwood works fine with all of the other inputs then it's likely something right in the phono section. Depending on which it is it might be worth having it repaired or you can just use it for other non-phono use.
 
The Sherwood S-7250 is a nice, very basic receiver with 20 watts rms/channel. Looks like they sell in the $125 range on average. Unless you have a special affinity for that receiver, having any repairs done is likely not economically feasible.

The phono input problem that you describe could be something as simple as a bad connection on the input board. Somebody handy with electronics might be able to locate and fix a problem like that quite easily.

Yeah, it’s not worth investing a lot of $ to pay someone to fix it, because you’ll never get that $ out if/when you sell it, but if you’re up for trying to fix it yourself or can find a local AK’er willing to poke around and troubleshoot, it’s worth a try.

It’s a nice receiver and nice sounding, but doesn’t sell for a lot. If only the phono inputs are bad and the rest works, you may also just want to use it in a secondary system using the AUX inputs or tuner.

TT is usually an abbreviation for turntable, thus the earlier comments. Anyway. . .

Yes, your Teac has 75wpc, so 55wpc more than the Sherwood. A pretty big difference.

What speakers are you using?

However two things I can’t figure out. When I select speakers a or b it plays out one side or the other. But when I select both I get no sounds. Also I have to turn the volume up very high to get the record to come in on a good volume. I have attached some photos. Can someone help?

You are using both the A and B speaker terminals incorrectly. You should be using the top row only!!! Make sure you use the correct positive and negative terminals for each speaker.
