Okay, Important post

How not to drive myself crazy, no need.

First, I love the way my system sounds. I will see which way I like better, 220ohm or 150ohm, but that's it.

I even started wondering why my volume has to be so high (normally) as posted above on all inputs. It has always been that way but I will throw out this question.

My pre-amp out is split. First Y split is one side feeds a switch box for power amps, second side to a powered sub. Cannot use SUB out when you use the pre-out function of the Marantz.

The side that goes to the power amps actually goes to a switch box that lets me select the Velleman K4040 or Yamaha M65 for power amp.

So the question is, do the splits create any king of impedance or signal loss ? If I HAD to I could go to just one split..PRE out to sub one side, single power amp on the other, no switch box. Thoughts?

Other than wondering about that, I love how my system sounds !!! I really do..but wondering if I am PUSHING harder than need be ?

dB is calculated by the formular:

dB=20 * log (Vout / Vin)​

So for a voltage gain of 21.83 we get:

20 * log (21.83)
or 20 * 1.34 = 26.8 dB​

For voltage gain of 13.5 we get:

dB = 20 * log (13.5)
or 20 * 1.13 = 22.6 dB​

But that may be a VERY cool idea..dedicate the TT to the Yamaha...but I could do the same with my tube amp (it too is Class A)

Hmmm...

Still dang curious about the volume on my Marantz...I think it is NOTHING like a dial which is linear and more like exponential. why ? Because at -40 it is nice low to medium low listening level ...at -30...pretty loud...at 26..I am rocking...but figure its pretty silent at below -50
 
The M65 'cuz it has level controls, class 'A ' on it 'cuz I think it sounds a bit better in that mode. The tube amp may also have level controls and will likely sound different if not better.

I forgot about that..DUHH...LOL

Did some more tests last night...seems I was wrong..I get sound all the way down to around -70...But still..-40 to -35 is where I get into listening levels (and I am not aggressive) so sort of makes me wonder...same with CD and doesn't matter which power amp I use...

Will post back more info this weekend...:yes:

And I will...this could be cool...except my reservations are as follows:

1) My pre has a remote so changing volume is a PIA
2) No bass / treble control - I am not BIG on flat

Then there is a problem somewhere as 'flat' should be your base line for well-recorded/ well produced program material.

First of course is room dynamics. Second is personal preference. What if I like more bass than most ? I understand some prefer the unaltered sound of reproduction however; unless you have the most sophisticated system and perfect sound room, it is just a preference , not necessarily the "right" way. There is no "right" way..only what we prefer. :D

My pref is usually to get pretty much what is on the recording into the room with the least intercession of gear, recordings that need a lot of 'help' to be listenable don't get a lot of ear-time. I do admit most good recordings are engineered to sound 'good' rather than 'real', Sheffield DTDs are my base line for 'real'.

How does this phono stage go with LOMC carts like the Denon DL-S1?

Where can I find instructions and a parts list to build it?
 
I put this together this weekend and it all worked first time. 2 x 9V batteries. Very quiet, laid back and reminds me of my Phenomena 2 preamp.

For a $5 tweak I suggest folks get a pair of Jantzen Z-Standard 2.2uf cap to replace the stock 2.2uf caps. It warmed the top end off, added a bit of layering to the music and improved the space between instruments. Most of all, this improvement is immediate and does not require caps to burn in, although overtime it should sound better.

I don't build components any more, so the otherwise-fascinating details in 400 posts didn't mean much to me.

But the promise to compare it to the Einstein was very intriguing.

I have "patiently waited". But it's been 10 years now...

Thanks for that Sachu. When they're all gone, half the people will say "Oh, I didn't know they were endangered" and half will say "What's a Tiger?" and half will say "We didn't need them anyway."

There must be a way to save them, and you too.
 
i have the HTMCPS currently configured for an AT33PTG/II, which is .4mV and 12R. what would a good resistor combo be for a Benz Micro Ace Medium (.8mV and 24R)?
