HORN ALMIGHTY my ultimate project

But what do they sound like????

They look fantastic, you must be proud of such work.

The sound:scratch2:

My goal was to make a horn witch would go down to 35Hz. From the measurements I see the horn will reach 45Hz -3dB. It is very good but not good enough I like sub bass. And the push of the low end and clean sound what only a horn can.

This horn has the dynamics and sound surprisingly warm, it even has some colour ration to the warm side. That I would call that this horn has it own signature it is not neutral.

The sound stage is appears huge. The depth of sound stage is amazing and so is its efficiency.

My neighbour complaint that she doesn't like that even the walls are vibrating when I listen music. :thmbsp:(it works) I used this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXD6Gtinvbc&feature=related
The power of the base gave me goose skin.
That was the weekend I got the filter sounding good and wanted to hear what it sound like with some higher power. I used my 50W Vfet amp. The output was about 120dB I estimate.

My living room is now the problem because the backloaded horn needs some space to mix the output of the horn with the direct radiation of the cone. I hear to that in my listening distance the sound waves aren't good mixed yet I have to move further away of the speaker.

What is also very good that the high frequency are fine and detailed with out being aggressive. It is even better than a soft dome in my perception.

All to gether not enough sub base but good dynamic warm sound with push in it. Huge deep soundstage also a horn achievement and good efficiency about 102dB/1Wmtr.

Beautiful work, Helmuth! I like them a lot.

Could you tell me about the resistors in this picture? Why so many? Are you paralleling resistor values for higher current handling? :scratch2:

I wanted to use carbon resistors. To compare the sound to wire wound resistors. the wire wound sounded brighter but it became harsh compared to the carbon resistor.

By paralleling 120X 0,5W resistors (the print is double sided also resistors on the back)I become a inductive free power resistor that doesn't change due heat. Because this attenuator is very important to the sound quality.
And I can better fine tune the sound level by skipping a resistor.

The horn almighty is disarmed :D because it was a bit to much for my livingroom.

Some parts like the horn driver is use in this openbaffle.

I still had the small backloaded horn saved for a new driver.
