When I was growing up in the 60s, there were 3 newspapers in the DC area: The Washington Daily News - a weekday tabloid format; the Evening Star; and The Washington Post (the morning paper). Now, only the Post remains ... tho Sun Myung Moon bought up the Evening Star's presses in '82 and they make a go of presenting an alternative conservative Press in this town. Not making a political comment on any of them.

I can't go along with the previously posted chart too well. News and analysis are coexistent in the chart's upper tier. That says, "These are the facts and this is how we see them". Whoa, back it up a bit. Analysis is editorial, not news. Analysis is fine, but mixing it in as a metric for credibility is quite slippery.

Editorial journalism has peppered almost every aspect of information being delivered. I vote on the 20% truth line, but still need to be wary as I realize most likely there are purposeful omissions. Sometimes to dumb things down other times because they don't sync with the messenger's analysis.
Real information is found at the extremes where biases such as they exist are unapologetically out front.

Not nessecarily, that is where hyperbole and outright lies for agenda reside.
That can be true but thing is they are right out front with it much more than the main stream. I trust and question my own discernment, open extremism is not necessarily a vice. Actually, I've observed 'extremes' be normalized at the expense of common sense as a process that allows no debate to the point of marginalizing then criminalizing alternative views. It is a well established pattern.

I believe little I see, less I hear.
I hear you James. Whether one believes 'it' or not there is an affect on one's field of consciousness. If it is programmed there is purpose behind it the effect of which has been scientifically studied. On the other hand it might be directionless words intending to inform with no deeper thought than selling a sponsors product. Popular media does seem to speak with one voice though so there is that.

Just take into account who/where/when/why/how "the effect... scientifically studied". And, who is providing the funds that allow for this study to be done.

Gotta ask T...is this with, or without glasses and hearing aids? :D PTB! (pokin' the bear!)

My take is that the very moment that "news" became "entertainment" it was permanently warped.

Even worse, you get the news you want. Baskin Robins ain't got much on the various "news" outlets. Pick your flavor.

This thread was designed to be shut down.
Mods, please abide by OP's wishes.

Here's a different perspective - we're talking, nobody seems irate, and we're adults. I enjoy this talk, but I understand we have rules and such. But yeah, certainly a topic of great contention, and one we really ought to have (maybe just not here).

And yet again, I failed to read the initial post thoroughly.

"without explaining the why..."

Sorry Quad. I guess you were wanting to see how many, but not their reasons.

But you just know that many will be unable to restrain themselves from giving their reasons, and then there we are, circling the drain once again.

Without being able to show proof and examples, this is just an Opinion Circle Jerk. My proof was deleted as expected.

Sorry Quad, this didn't seem to go as expected.

Perhaps. Maybe not. We're at 80 posts! And some great thoughts being shared!

To date, pretty much all have abided by avoiding name calling/condescending remarks...and kudos:thumbsup: for them for doing this.

It wasn't proof - you brought up very specific names and took it political, OF COURSE it was deleted. The whole point was the OP asked that it NOT go political, as long as it stays non-political, it can continue.

Those who INSIST on taking it political can be dismissed from the thread, either voluntarily, or by BAN.

I know that this might be setting up a thread to get shut down due to its polarization make-up, but was hoping to get an over all picture, more so in the way of %.

So, this might be a poll where you share an opinion by selecting just how much you see as being the truth, WITHOUT getting into the WHY you think as you do.

However, if you can side-step your take on gov't as it is, and not taking a side, or lamenting specifically what is being done or not...it might be best, before the political fangs/claws come out.

So, keeping in mind the above constraints, share a %.

And if you can want to make a comment, keep it on the neutral side, without name calling or finger pointing, as this poll will be shut down in short order... as it should for opinions being emotionally charged.

Don't you think he was perhaps being a little disingenuous, knowing that the thread would eventually turn political, regardless of his "pleas"? Isn't political discourse a natural evolution of this topic?

Having a fairly long, on going PM conversation with the OP I do not think he is being “disingenuous”. The problem is the political hacks that can’t control themselves, both blue hat and red hat wearers are equally guilty.

My hats purple BTW ;)
