How to verify original equipment specifications?

I see that most electronic test equipment manufacturers built Audio Analyzers. I don't believe these other units are software driven? But are there any good ones of these?

Are they simply spectrum analyzers?

I see these most wonderful graphs that Audio Precision can produce, I would think this is due to it's interface to Windows. These appear to be easy to understand. It is one thing to capture accurate data and another to process this data into a user friendly format. For example:

I recently purchased the complete set of PEAK test units. The DCA75 PRO has this ability to provide graphs to the computer. To understand those graphs appears to be a mystery here on AK.

In my experience, many of these beautiful graphs, and they are beautiful, might fail regulatory tests where you need to look at stuff at a specified resolution bandwidth. I’m not sure for audio but for cellular transmission, where you look at second and third order harmonics and other spurious emissions, you must set the analyzer resolution bandwidth at 25khz. A headache because you always start seeing things you didn’t know were even there.

Check eBay for used equipment, I guess there must be some once in a while. Here in Japan I routinely see HP-8590 models for great prices … one of these days. So many equipment to buy, so little time.
