Huge McIntosh Auction

First of all, if this is an improper post, my heartfelt apologies, but I stumbled across an auction of proportions I've never seen. Almost exclusively McIntosh tube equipment and so I thought it may be up a few of the members' alleys.

Bids are rolling in and some are already getting high. To be expected I guess. A large number of MC40, and MC240's in that auction. All will probably need some work. With that many MC40's in the market now you would think the prices would drop. Wishful thinking maybe.
 
I've registered for that auction as I wanted to possibly get some of the tuners and preamps, but its a crap shoot at best, and its an auction so who knows what sort of bidding wars will take place.
If I can get a MR71/74/78/80 for a steal I will, the C29 is an often overlooked pre-amp too...but we'll see.
I thought a MC240 would be nice but I think they are going to go for big money.
Plus the overseas shipping is a bit tricky too....they do have a third party looking after that.
 
There have been at least two threads on that auction here, it's well publicized on other audio sites also.

I do hope that this equipment finds its way into caring hands, could make many people happy!

I noticed several McIntosh wood cases and a bunch of panloc hardware which may be of interest to some.

I’ve emailed the auctioneer about shipping. Was told that they will drop off at a UPS center for packing and shipping. This will be paid for by the buyer.

I’ve done this before, it cost a lot for really poor packing.

Also pay attention to the 15% buyers premium.

I’m afraid this auction only looks like a good deal for those in Connecticut. I’m just a spectator on this one, too many risks.

Thats what i have decided too. Not worth it.
 
McIntosh by the tonnage!
I can't even imagine the building strong enough to hold it all.
It looks like more than Audio Classics.
 
So what is the likely source of this stuff. Some of it almost has to be from Mc's own inventory or that of a large distributor.

It says when you register for the auction that it came from a single deceased estate, so I assume some collector.....
Why anyone would collect that much gear is beyond me but you know people do what people do....

If McIntosh isn’t shipped in McIntosh made boxes I won’t purchase it. Having UPS box it is a prescription for disaster.

There are some items still in the original McIntosh shipping boxes, but even so, its a crap shoot at best, they are an auction house, not an audio enthusiast association, so they wont care what happens after the hammer falls so unless you can be there in person to pick it up, I don't think its worth it...
