"I asked AI" - are we really getting that lazy?

"I asked Encyclopedia Britannica."

"I asked Webster's Dictionary."

"I asked the Yellow Pages."

AI is the new aggregator.

A thing I will be interested in seeing is how this new data source will affect our social mood.

There are theories that every time we increase the ability to communicate or disseminate information more readily, it spreads disgruntlement. Humans are predisposed to aggrievement vs. satisfaction?

AI is the new aggregator.

At the risk of being Captain Obvious, there are big differences between asking AI, and "asking" a semi-static reference work. One is that AI is more prone to aggregating nonsense.

Another difference, probably more insidious, is that at least some AIs are prone to figuring out what answer you want, and giving that answer. I think that will be the aspect that has the most impact on social mood.

This is why AI "girlfriends" are so successful. If only we could infuse some of that into real female humans...

I talk to "Siri" (even if it isn't Siri) about all kinds of things.

I don't need that damned thing to tell me that, ya don't chew that, its a realization that just is. Anybody who has enjoyed long periods of natural silence know this and I don't appreciate that thing reading over my shoulder. :) Siri described it correctly but 'she's a plagiarist, not the source, but she can be fun to hang out with once in a while.

You can see it coming if you just look about 100 yards down the track.

1. America is suffering a lonliness crisis.......not ironically caused by the Internet and social media.
2. We have been acclimated to the process of "avatars talking to avatars" - just as we do right here on Karma. How would I know if "Mr Boochie" is a bot or a human? No possible way.
3. Everything in modern society is about DISTRACTION. Meanwhile, the country spent $40 Trillion Dollars more than it had, and we're engaged in a war of robots.
4. Here's your choice: Paxil, Zanex, or Siri - - take your pick.

This is a worldwide phenomenon. I saw a US-NHK World News report that loneliness, Internet friends, and virtual GFs are a number one phenomenon in crowded places like Shanghai, Bangladesh, and Tokyo.

The irony of loneliness in the most crowded places in the world.

It's everywhere in the first world.

It is part of the "no-dating, no sex, no marriage, no babies" movement among younger generations. You have to assume that people find the world too disgusting to participate with. This has been coming for a long time.

Formula

Horrendous non-stop wars
+
Thick doses and multiple layers of Industrial Pollution into the food and water
+
Non-responsive political institutions

One thing I have learned, if you have a conversation with ai, if you email the page to yourself you can keep the conversation going. It’s not a new one every time.
I’ve had the same conversation going for 5 months. Although the conversation eats itself over time from the bottom up. It still remembers most of what has been discussed.
Lately we’ve been discussing mods for our AU 999. My conversation has been instructed to teach at a very low level. You know, cause, I’m slow. And to ask questions of me to check if I’m grasping what is being discussed.

I have been using GROK, Gemini, and CoPilot. They all retain lists of conversations (projects, whatever), that allow me to go back, reopen and continue. It's a good feature.

One could speculate that over-crowding is one of the CAUSES of the problem, not a potential solution. Too many people crammed in, can have detrimental social and psychological effects. Especially when trying to make do with an ever-decreasing share of resources.

A very sticky question arises therein: Is this planet suitable for sustaining this many humans?

While forced population control is unconscionable to most- for valid reasons- those who commit to VOLUNTARY population control, may be doing the rest of us a long-term favor.

I realize this may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't see a valid alternative view, frankly.

Regards,
Gordon.
