I need these like a hole in the head...

Not trying to brag at all. My modest pile is small compared to some of you guys!

I like the idea of fixing them, maybe moving something else to someone else to fit them, somewhere. Maybe a winter project. I'm thinking, the hole is getting bigger!

Actually what I should have said is....I'm so jealous:D I wish I had the room for half of the speakers you have in that collection. I was selling many of these brands in my youth at a hifi store and remember them fondly. I just don't have the dedication (or energy) to start more projects.

It's all good! I wish i had worked in a hifi store when I was younger while in college, but for some reason it never occurred to me. In the 70's when I was a teen, I lived in White Plains, NY, and spent every Saturday morning at Harvey Sound on Post Rd. drooling over all the gear in their listening rooms and out on display. It was heaven.

The speakers in the pic have been collected over only the last two years or so. I've been lucky, but picky. AK has been instrumental with my recent audio education. I thank everyone here for that. I'm still a noob though.

We are merely stewards of this stuff until the general populace realizes what they've been missing and start to appreciate it in a big way. That's my story anyway.

I was going to ask if the ceiling was fully utilized but someone beat me to it.

I agree. I've been trying to get some of my co-workers and friends interested in vintage gear. A couple seem to be, but haven't made the plunge I think out of ignorance of old gear and the fear/lack of skills to work on it.

The ceiling has R/C model air planes hanging from the first floor beams. No room there. I may have to remove the next level shelf above the speakers for room.

Fixed that for you. :smoke:

Drummm rooooollllllll......

Tested them this morning expecting the usual dead tweets. They sound GREAT! The tweeters actually work. Bass is very nice and will improve after I reseal the surrounds.

Those 23s are very nice. When I found my Model 20s at a GW, my wife asked why I needed more speakers. I said they were the ones I saw at college and at that time, I had stacked B&Os on my Advents in my dorm room - no more space. Now, the 20s are my daily shop speaks which usually have NPR classical playing. The guitar music playing right now is so sweet. Great find.

Congrats. I would still suggest recapping. KLH sadly used some rather not long lived caps so, it is only a matter of time and likely the originals if that is what you have are way out of spec.

Get the sealer from vintage-ar to do the surrounds right and not have issues later. The price may seem a bit stiff but most persons spend more on a pack of cigs. Lastly, make sure you replace the driver to baffle gaskets, especially if they have the caulk, mortite that while seemingly still okay just will not get the job done. A roll of closed cell foam at the local hardware store cost me about CDN$4.00 and was enought to do the job. I used 1/8x3/8 and did a double strip on each woofer.

I spy a beautiful pair of AR-2A's. One of my favorites!

You and your dorm room must have been pretty popular!
Ii had 17's I gave my daughter, so I know those 20's are sweet little speakers.

The 23's cabs need work. Scratched, some smashed in corners etc... I'll get to that part after new caps and the woofers being resealed.

Hey Brian.

I've got 3 jars of the sealer from my other KLH and AR resto projects. Just need to order the caps and restore the cabs. These will done over the winter after a few other projects are completed.

Thanks, Glenn

Okay, so you already have a "few" sets of speakers tucked away downstairs; out of everyone's way...only for your amusement. I'd jump on those KLH's like Lawrence Taylor on a rookie signal caller...but that's just me.

If the LSTs are relegated to the basement, you must have some very nice speakers in the two systems upstairs.

I did. Maybe you missed it.
