I think this Pioneer pair might be a score

When I looked at the two pieces cleaned up and stacked it reminded me of why I love the equipment from that era. Beautiful, functional, and very nice sound.

Oh my, I remember bell bottoms and driving in Winter. Danged things lying in the slop on the floor on while driving made great wicks.... brr...

Plenty of my friends had just about the same combo as that. I was the odd man out who went for Yamaha and an integrated/tuner approach. Still marching to a different drummer perhaps.
 
I wonder what kind of improvements we can derive by applying some of marcmorin's AR XA techniques to the Pioneer belt drive turn tables? :scratch2: :thmbsp:

The bell bottoms were gone before my first turntable which was a Taya LP-100 with a Technics SA-300 and Mission 700 speakers. Before the end of the 70's I had my first Rega Planar 2, so not quite in the mainstream either.

Bell bottoms came and went pretty fast and never liked them too much, too much material.

I like the flared bottoms better and they seem to stay in style longer.

Interesting that you had that combo as good friend had (and still has) exactly the same. I wonder if there was someone marketing them together as a special at the time? He still has and uses that table and it is pretty good.
 
I got my stuff at different times but from the same shop which at first occupied 1 small room at the student union building at UNB in Fredericton. It later moved and expanded and even later I worked there. Actually the Taya was first as I had a tube receiver pulled from a Viking console plus speakers from it that I built the cabinets for.
 
I just finished cleaning the controls and ousting the dustbunnies in the receiver and hooked it all up as the primary system. I don't know about you but Bill and I think it looks pretty darn good. :)
