If you could have any McIntosh amp, which one would it be.

The gear in my signature outspecs my own hearing abilities and the noise level contained in almost all program material I've ever heard.

Yep, this. Realizing this over the last few years has made me a lot more content with what I have — no need to pour money into gear for supposed sonic upgrades. There are other reasons for looking around, of course: build quality, new source, pleasure of ownership, curiosity about different design approaches, etc. But again, I’m really happy with what I’m listening to now. Lets me give my attention to the music.

I really have no pining for any more, or to upgrade the Mc. Preamps, power amps, both tube and SS, integrated, and the 3 different sets of Mc. speakers that I`ve owned for decades.
Their SQ performance most certainly exceeds my 67yr. old previously abused hearing.
I`m very grateful that all my SS Mc. preamps/amps continue to function without any problems, or issues, some operating many hrs. daily since purchasing the first brand new in 1986.
Other than replacing their failed front panel lights with LED eight yrs. ago.
Of course, I had to electronically restore my 1975 purchased Mc. MC-30s, 1977 MC-225, and 1993 single MC-60 if I was going to use them.
Still haven`t electronically restored my original manufactured and single owner C-22 that I purchased in 2000, in which I will when it requests me to do so.

My (4) 16 yr. old MC-1201s (2) in the bedroom`s 2 ch. stereo, and the other (2) used in my living rooms tri-amplified HT for 80 Hz on down are asked well below any desired elevated SPL wattage requirements, that they hardly become more than slightly above my body temperature, insures they will never be thermally stressed, even operating all day and most likely never need service for the rest of my life, with the exception of their front panel incandescent bulbs failing, in which the bedroom`s 1201s bulbs finally failed sometime last yr. But I don`t care, since I only listen to what their doing, not what they look like (never been a Mc. meter watcher) while laying in bed listening to music before I finally fall asleep hrs. later.

I have an MA12000 integrated and it (finally) scratches my itch. I’ve use the original C22 with an early MC240 and it sounded great but I was always nervous about the tubes. I sold them and went with Benchmark gear for a while. It was nice and very transparent but I missed the C22 so I bought it again, this time with old MC60’s - and I grew nervous about excessive tube use, and my listening room gets warm in the afternoon thanks to the sun so it grew uncomfortable with the MC60 heaters running too. I sold them and found an MA12000 and use them with Sonus Faber Olympics and the whole setup rocks. That vintage stuff sounds great too but the ultimate decision is how things work in the room you have. We’re not listening in a laboratory. I have no desire to ‘upgrade’ though I’m sure I’ll eat these words someday but when that day comes I’ll love my new setup. Chasing perfection is a Sisyphean task.

I've had pretty much every McIntosh amp that I ever wanted at this point, but of course compared to most I'm shooting low. I've owned a bunch of them that I really liked, and the MC30's and MC240 I presently have pretty much scratches every itch. If a MC225 become available at some point I would love one of those. But that's about it. I'm not a modern gear guy, so no matter how great and special the later amps are, and I have no doubt they are, they're not for me.

Pretty boring I know.

Well looks like the last frontier is about to be conquered:naughty:

I'm very happy with the ones that I have but if I were ever to upgrade, I'd have to pick a pair of MC901's.

I guess I would like a pair of the 1.2KW's if only for the giant meters and handles. I don't *need* any more power than my 501's provide, but this hobby stopped being about "need" long ago :-).

Currently have:
MC240 and C26

Would love to have one day:
MC1502 and C22 MK V

Would never get rid of my current system, just change my speakers…

I would love to try 6 MC 3500 MK II's with my Tri-amped speakers. I heard a few pair of my speakers with passive crossovers with the original 3500's and they were dynamically fantastic. Or Maybe four 3500's for the bottom and mids with my two MC 830's for the tweeters. It would be fun to try 2 MC 3500 MK II's with my XRT 28's.
Not asking too much. simple is sometimes better:)

If I had the room and the money, I would love to try a pair of MC3500 mk2 amps. But to be honest, I’m very happy with my MC462, it has an incredible amount of power and just works with no issues.
