If you could have any McIntosh amp, which one would it be.

Well cheaper than I would have expected although those look like they would need a bit of work to get them performing as they should. I guess the added input brackets on the front panels along with the Hanley sign are proof that these were at Woodstock (maybe).

1.2kw's. Not that I am unhappy with what I have, if I never got them, I'd bo ok, but I did listen to them at audio classics and I have and can still hear why it wouldn't be a waste of money if I had it. but those amps REALLY make flawed sources obvious, but they do also reveal limitations in amps beneath them in the chain, but, they cost considerably more than what I have and I am not sure I have enough good recordings to make it worth it. to those who say they couldnt hear a difference, well maybe because I don't know what other people can or can't hear and who am I to try and tell them they can hear it, BUT I used to think my own hearing wouldn't be good enough to discern a difference, but to my surprise, I can. But not all those differences are improvements, sometimes the difference is you can hear how flawed the source material can be, so the differences you will hear may not be good ones.

Maybe an industrial MC240 before prices went nuts. Common tube compliment, simple front end, I might almost be able to move it about.
Solid state?
MC7100, power adequate, weight easily managable.
However, there's a tremendous amount of more affordable worthy competition in this class.

Don't think anyone has mentioned this model yet, but being that part of my personal audio philosophy is that I don't desire to own any amplifier that I can't pick up by myself, my choice in the Mac world would have been the humble, but rather pretty (I think) MC754. Looks like a tube unit, but solid state (my preference), 100 watts output plenty for the ADS speakers it would drive and the small rooms I've always been saddled with.
If I did go for a bigger amp? MC2255. Preamp would be either the one I own, the C504, or a C34V.

Coming from you, 62caddy, that's a heck of a compliment for the 7000. I, actually, prefer that the 7000 is strictly analogue.
Bingo. Plus the classic 5 band McIntosh used for decades is both effective and convenient as would be desired for program use.
8-band starts to become cumbersome out of proportion to the benefit, IMHO.

The OP says amp, as in singular, so that cuts out having a wall of 1.2kw's. So it would have to be the biggest stereo amp currently available, SS or tube being the only question.
And it goes without saying I don't have to spend my money on it.

Well you guys are enablers, my MC1.25KWs are being delivered Saturday.
A MC462 would be nice, especially since I just went back to Maggies. But the size and weight is just too much, neither my rack or my back can handle anything more than my 7270. So I will just continue loving it.
So...How are they????????
