If you could have any McIntosh amp, which one would it be.

The ones that I`ve already bought brand new and been happily using (four big boy SS mono blocks since 2006)
And the later also purchased ~10 yrs. ago four MC-275LE tube ones configured for mono.
All performing flawlessly with zero sonic/reliability issues.
 
In terms of tubes, it'd be the MC2000. That was the first Mc amp I ever saw a photo of, back when I still accessed the internet via AOL dial-up. Classic blue meters, with a window above them showing the glorious tubes inside. Hoping to hear one someday.

For solid-state, it'd be a pair of MC1201s, as those were the first Mc amps I got to hear in-person at Ensemble Home Theatre in NH. I believe they were being fed by MC's tube pre of the time (C2200?), and fed into a set of B&W Nautilus speakers. Truly a thing of auditory beauty. :thumbsup:

I currently own an MC275 MKVI, with Gold Lions, and love it driving my Klipschorns. If I changed speakers, I might prefer other, more powerful McIntosh amplifiers. As far as I’m concerned, amps are speaker dependent. Horses for courses.

I’ve lusted after Mac blue eyes ever since I first saw them when I was 13. As much as I wanted them, however, when I finally could get them (after owning other Mac amps), instead, I got the 275, which sounded better with my Klipschorns. (Be careful what you wish for.)

Currently, if I’m sticking with tubes, I like the looks of the MC3500 MKII. (Though I’ve never heard them; and I might prefer an MC225.) But two of those 350-WPC mono blocks (four if I ever upgraded to Klipsch Jubilees) would be overkill, like swatting a gnat with a flamethrower.

Funny you said this as I felt and just experienced the same. Was finally going to get a Mac amp with blue eyes (MA5300) and the more I thought about/researched it, I ended up going with the MA252 instead (Gold Lions on the way). I love it and am very happy with that decision.

Those 1201s in use here for 17 yrs. effortlessly provide clear sounding audio for me since purchase and installation in my living room`s tri-amplified bass speaker configuration and the other 2 in bedroom`s full range stereo application.
With only the bedroom`s daily use 1201`s front panel/meter bulbs finally burning out several yrs. back as the only issue(s) (or in my case a very desirable failure) with all four amps.

Pretty happy with what I have though. Maybe an MC-30 for a center channel from the C-26 and a modern center channel speaker from McIntosh to add to the current system.
