If your happy with your system.....Leave a post

Beyond finishing up my main speakers upstairs (cosmetically), I'm very happy and content with that systems overall performance. Other than something I may stumble across to play with, I don't feel compelled to "fix" anything or see any necessary changes in the foreseeable future.

Currently, my basement setup revolves around another pair of DIY speakers with a revolving assortment of B Squad amplification and source components. Although it lacks the refinement of my main set-up, also provides a very satisfying listen.

Am I happy and content? After a few decades of chasing a sound I want, I think I can finally say, yes. Is it perfection? Nope.

I wasn't on the hunt for any, but a recent and timely stop at a speaker supplier resulted in the acquisition of a trio of tar filled Altec 1005's with throat adapters. These should make for some horny DIY fun down there in the months to come.

This is the kind of thing that really gets me jazzed about audio now a day. All the rest results in tail chasing for the most part. For myself anyway.

Really happy with the way the living room system sounds.

Rotel pre-amp
Thorens TD124
AR LST-2s
AR "Connoisseur Series" Subwoofer

Amps, right now, are Dayton APA-150 for the mains and a Dayton SPA-250 plate amp for the sub. It was intended to be a temporary set up, but that little APA-150 seems to be doing the job quite well. I'm thinking about getting a second one to do the sub and calling it a day.

There's some other stuff in the set up- got one of those inexpensive HD Radio tuners at Radio Shack when they were on close out. Sony DVD player for CDs and an AudioControl EQ.

I purchased a pair of those APA 150's for sub(s) or just horsing around amps a while back after speaking with Celt about his. I've been running them in my basement set-up.

Right now I'm using both in stereo mode. One driving a pair of full range drivers and the other driving a pair of subs (more or less) utilizing the variable Low-Pass filter. Although they have been a bearcat to dial in because of the nature of what I am working with, find them very credible little amps sound wise once you get there.

Beyond that, considering how flexible they are because they can be run in mono or stereo, have defeatable variable low pass and also level control, would class them as one of my best buys of 2012.

I´ve been satisfied with my system since I bought it in 1986. It sounds fantastic to me. I am thinking about selling my two Kenwood amps though, and getting one, new, powerful amp.

Satisfied :)

All the systems are multi-purpose and each uses a custom HTPC that integrates Music, HD Premium CATV, DVD, Blu-ray movies, Videos, Photos, Slide shows, Internet browsing, Netflix, Hulu, Netradio, etc. Local content is provided by a central file server. HD CATV is provided by 2 network attached SiliconDust HDHR Prime 3CC Tuner devices.

HTPC

HTPC 2.0 system
-> USB -> HRT MSII DAC -> Moscode 600 -> DCM Time Window Squared
-> HDMI -> 27" NEC LCD Monitor
<- RCA <- NAD Phono Pre <- Beogram 1800/MMC3

HTPC 5.1 system
-> S/PDIF -> Denon AVR 3805 -> HSU VT-12 (L/R/C/LS/RS) + HSU VTF3 MKII Sub
-> HDMI -> 55" Samsung LCD HDTV

HTPC 5.1 system
-> HDMI -> Yam RX-V673 -> KEF Q60 (L/R), KEF Model 90 (C) + Kenwood LSK-02B (LS/RS) + Velodyne F1500 Sub
-> HDMI -> 55" Samsung LCD HDTV

One hardware change I'm considering is to replace the NAD Phono Pre with an HRT Line Streamer, and I'm always interested in whats happening wrt A/V software.

Yeah, "horsing around amp" is exactly why I have it. I wanted to get my Denon POA 2400 out of that system so I could get it behind my AR9s (where it belongs). But, shoot, I'm really happy with the result.

I am seriously happy. I didn't build it for you.....I built it for me. It has the perfect combination of warmth and detail. Thanks for everyone here who helped.
I do not listen to any specifications.
I listen to music.....and I am enjoying it like never before in my life.

The two systems I have in my room are a Sony STR-DE715 with Klipsch Synergy bookshelf speakers (just two) and an Infinity Minuette center channel as my AV setup, and a set of Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 computer speakers for my PC, and I'm quite happy with both.

They are both great for music, but the thing that amazes me the most about the Soundworks speakers is how they sound with good quality Youtube videos... For example, if I'm watching a video about a car, I can not only hear, but feel the revving of the engine (although it helps that I rest my feet on the bass module... :P )

The only thing I don't like about my AV setup is that it can be too loud at midnight when I'm watching a movie that has sounds that are louder than the dialogue... :P

Everybody needs a "horsing around amp" or two for quick set-ups and testing, right?! ;) That was my thinking going in but pleased to find out that they exceeded my expectations, particularly when used as a full range amplifier and not just with the low pass feature engaged for sub duty.

I was really just looking for a couple of plate amps for a project I was working on but these things looked to be so dang versatile, I decided to give them a go. I'm happy with the results also.

Yeah, ditto on that. And speaking of which, I really-hate when someone posts a thread about speakers or whatever, and some guy comes out with "As long as you're happy with 'em"... That's like insulting someone and then telling them you're there for them if they need a shoulder to cry on. According to some blog I found online a while back, my main speakers are a poorly-implemented design with bad specs aplenty. Oh well. As long as I'm happy...

:scratch2:

Yep, I am.

I'd have to say I'm happily discontent.

What, you may ask?

I am quite happy with the way things sound, but I keep searching for ways to make it better. I guess I'm not content to stand pat.

The only thing about being happy with your system is then you start on another and another and so on.
So now to start on system #3

2 vintage valve amp systems. (dynaco & HH Scott...THE FISHER in reserve)
2 vintage solid state systems. (both Sansui)
Listening to my favorite music on killer vintage gear is doing what i've always wanted to do. Very happy.

Yup, happy as a poodle in a weenier factory, not that I'm not done with it but I could be and would be content with it. Listening room system:

DQ-10's (freshly redone w/ Regnar caps)* - Mitsubishi DA-A10DC*
DQ-1W sub* - Sony ES-55 bridged
Emotiva USP-1 Preamp
Thorens TD-125 ll*, Grace 707 ll*, Grace F9 w/ SS Ruby OCL on the way
Dual CS-5000, Shure V15 lll w/ SAS
Denon DCD-615 via Behringer Tube Ultraflex*
Emotiva X Series Interconnects

I've mainly just been working on one main system. I'm just now searching for the right backup gear. I've got backup speakers, but I need a backup receiver in the 25-30wpc range, like an early solid-state model from Sansui or Sherwood, but I also want a tube amp, again, maybe a Sansui or Sherwood. I'd love a Fisher, but I'm looking at like $500 and up for a good one in working order (like maybe a 600).

But just my 2000x, MSII, and W90's alone with some digital audio is quite a thing (or my W60's). Better put on a helmet so it don't make a mess when I BLOW YO' MIND...

Pretty happy with all my systems. I would love to upgrade, but there's something satisfying about just NOT doing that for a while.

I think I have a ways to go. It sounds fantastic, but I am about the asthetics too. I am trying to find that happy place. I think I am leaning toward less intimidating speakers in size or maybe I can find something that just blends in a little better (Kappa 8's in the man cave). It is a lot of fun moving stuff in and out. I feel myself slowing down just a little though and not with the same enthusiasm. I believe part of it is getting wiser and not being so impulsive. I have stuff I bought a year ago I would not even think about touching now. I really am getting better at understanding what my preferences are. It does take time and I am a newbie by many standards. Some of the other threads helped to slow down too. Like that hoarder thread and some of the pics of gear stacked to the freak'in sky. When are you satisfied? Some me thinks "NEVER"!!!

"If your happy with your system.....Leave a post"

Not sure of your reasoning but here it is. :D
