I am almost finished with restoration of my Stacked Advents. I finally got them hooked up. I have a couple of Hafler 220's driving them. I had always been curious about the accolades they recieve in this configuration. The thing is, I don't care how much one knows, or thinks one knows, about acoustics, one cannot make concrete statements about acoustical aspects and expect them to be true in all instances.
I have a quadraphonic system with stacked original Advents in each corner and my computer desk is facing the side, in between the front right and back right speakers so that is where I am sitting a lot of the time with music playing.
In spite of all the assertions of this type of arrangement destroying any imaging or soundstaging (I have come to HATE that term), I am often struck by hearing an instrument or voice so real next to me that I turn my head almost expecting to see somebody there singing or playing.

Well, it's true. They sound marvelous. Huge sound, detail across the frequency spectrum. Forward and natural sounding. The famous tweeter anomalies are there, but the bigness and clarity are so strong that they overwhelm the weaknesses. I just need to finish the grills. I thought I would set it all up, then sell them but I am afraid these are keepers. None of my other speakers, including DQ10, Thiel, Canton, Jubal, etc have the specific strengths that the stacked Advents do.
The take home for me. Trust your ears over theory, name brand or guru.
