Same here. The last seconds of a bid war can be entertaining.

Yep. It was actually a rush when I was bidding on the KLH-1s I just won; I had my high bid ready to go, saw the high bids increase a bit but still well under what my high bid was going to be, submitted it with about 5 seconds to go... bid goes up with one second to go but still well under my high bid and boom, "You've won the item!"

Now they're making sweet music in my living room. :thmbsp:

I have bought quite a few items on ebay, mostly manually sniping with under 10 seconds left (5 is better).
JMO, any bids in the days before the end of the auction tend to just run the price up.
My last second snipe price is the maximum I'm willing to spend.
I also (when available) keep an eye on the "views" an auction has, and if the views greatly increase in the last hour or less that makes me SUSPECT there could be a last minute bidding frenzy.
There have been auctions in the past where it looked like I could get a sweet deal and then a bidding frenzy erupts in the last 30 or 60 seconds. If the price goes above what I was willing to post as my max bid I just figure another one (item) will come along.
The one downside to my method is that I need to be at the computer when the auction ends since I don't use a sniping program.

Turns out the seller retracted the previous bidder, had nothing to do with the buyer/bidder.

Nobody bid you up! Cant ask for anymore than that. Looks like the seller canceled the 0 F/B Bidder b/c he did not ask what shipping was before bidding? Looks legit to me!

The weird part is, he didn't ask me either, I'm canadian, guess the feedback helped! Hard to say if it will need much, won't know till I have it.

This gets even better. After comparing other hood off pics and taking notice of an obvious multi voltage rail beside the transformer, this sucker is what I thought it was, european!!!! Extra rare i'm guessing, i've yet to find another on the web!

Sellers today seem to know what they have and its true value and now days tend to error on the high side." It ain't what it used to be" applies here. I sniped nearly every item I bid on and got out sniped many times.

My last normal bid expires today. It's on a tuner. Let's see what happens. So far it has been bid up by two other bidders. Both have a lot of activity with this seller so I suspect that they are shills. They have already come within a few bucks of my max and there are still hours to go.

If they bump me off and then give me a second chance I'm going to tell them to stuff it. This game gets old . . . fast.

Sniping is the only way to go on ebay.

It's a race - if you want to have the thrill of bidding go ahead and run the price up. But if you want to win you only need to lead the last lap.
Sniping is the only way to really get the goods.

I never said it had anything to do with how low a winning bid I can put in, the fairness of having a human being present to click the bid button is, like I said in my previous statement you'd never see that at a real auction, it wouldn't be allowed. I guess thats where internet auctions fall short, all the automation involved.

Whether there is some unwritten rule about bidding against other AK'ers I do not know but any attempt to announce one's intentions to ward off others is not fair...to the seller. Remember, there are always two parties to a sale. IMO, IMO.

BTW, congrats on your 150 tuner. Now get the matching 3800 and 510M!

Just to keep the logic clear...sellers don't buy; buyers buy.

With the obvious exception of a too low BIN, it doesn't matter if the sellers know what they have or not. If they set their opening bid too high, the item will die without a bid. If they set a low opening bid, the item will sell for what the aggregate marketplace considers to be the current fair market value.

Buyers set the price, not the sellers.
