Using a snipe service, I use Bidnapper, also allows you to change or delete your proposed bid pretty much right up till the end. I think you have to do it with at least 15 minutes left or something like that - I haven't ever let it go that long - but if you change your mind on an item you have that flexibility.

I've never used any automated bid service. I just nerdishly hang out during the last moments of an auction. I actually kind of enjoy it.

If I'm not available at an auction's end to do so, I generally don't bid at all.

I never said it had anything to do with how low a winning bid I can put in, the fairness of having a human being present to click the bid button is, like I said in my previous statement you'd never see that at a real auction, it wouldn't be allowed. I guess thats where internet auctions fall short, all the automation involved.


OK Maybe fair or unfair is the wrong term- how about royally annoying :D

It doesn't matter if the person is there or not. Case in point:

I wanted a clean Crown K2 amp in a bad way. No way was a flipper going to get in my way. When a spotless and local K2 finally came up I bid my max in the last seconds. It was a lot of money and I was willing to part with it for that unit. No flipper, no wishy-washy, no half-hearted, no anybody had a chance at winning that bid against me. It didn't matter if they used snipe software or not. Money talks, BS walks.
 
Sniping is totally fair and frankly is the only intelligent way to bid on an item. I don't understand folks who claim it takes the 'fun' out of bidding. (Unless your idea of fun is paying more than necessary for an item) Ebay is NOT comparable to a regular auction which lasts only a few minutes. Ebay auction items are out there literally for days. When you use the ebay proxy bidding system you put yourself out there and allow others time to plink away and figure out your max bid, and drive up prices, etc.. It would be like playing cards with you willingly showing everyone else the cards you hold. Just crazy. :no: Sniping allows you to conduct business without leaving time for anyone to figure out what you're up to.... by then the auction is over.

The very first item I ever attempted to bid on ebay I sniped. Frankly it was a pain in the butt to be at the computer at the exact moment I needed to be... but I did it. I was super happy when I discovered sniping programs. Set and forget ! :thmbsp:
 
Sniping is absolutely, perfectly ok with eBay. No question. So, if it's perfectly ok with eBay, it's obviously not cheating. It's just "bidding".
 
Yes after googling the subject even ebay endorses it, of course they do, anything that helps the bidder helps the ebay pocket book.

Makes total sense. I can't remember my account with my selected sniper site, i've emailed them for a reset, the stakes for this item just went up!

Technically, I think you meant to say "...helps the seller...", since the seller pays the fees from his proceeds.

On the other hand, those of us who do use it, use it because of two reasons: It helps us win more auctions, and pay less for them. So, from that perspective, it costs eBay money.

I'm going to reiterate, again, something I've said a hundred times: "It doesn't matter how you place your bid, the highest bid placed wins, 100% of the time, period."

Period.

Here's the funny part; every time somebody starts a thread casting sniping in a negative light, all of us who snipe exclusively start trying to change the poster's mind. When, in reality, we should just shut the hell up.:yes:



So, you just go right on using eBay's proxy bidding service, or clicking the mouse manually. :yes: :thmbsp::D
 
That too! Keep in mind, I never mentioned anything about sniping in my original post, somehow it just wound up all about sniping.

Hey you may have come up with a new marketing product, TAX SNIPER, you fill in your crap online and the sniper submits it before the deadline, genius:banana:
 
I kinda see e-bay as no different than going to a live auction.

When I'm at a live auction and I see something I'm interested in, I typically stand at the back and wait and watch the war go on over it. If it starts to become clear the war is almost over, and it's going once, twice, and I then think the price is still fair to me, then I will flash my card or hand when no one is looking... sniping basically.. and a lot of times it will end there when a person realizes there is a new person, but can't tell who it is. They usually don't want to keep going up..

Other times, there is something I MUST have, and in that case I will move up close to the front, then just keep my hand or card raised, trying to intimidate others from not spending. Some times it works, other time you get bidded up by someone just being an ass, but most times being as it's real money, a lot of people won't take the risk..

The second way doesn't typically work so well on e-bay, but sniping does, so long as you're willing to pay more than all the rest of the snipers, and you won't get shilled up.
