Important message

Hello, I am so glad that the AudioKarma site is up so that I can contact someone in charge! Since the day after Christmas both Audio and VideoKarma sites were inaccessible to me. I have two different computers with totally different OSs and other configurations and neither computer could connect to your site due to some sort of missing DNS information. At least the DNS error came up if I tried to email you guys. Basically, my hands were tied because I couldn't email, call, or anything. My ISP said that the site worked from that location and one other member whose personal address I had said that it worked, but not for me. I tried today and I can get in Audio, but still not VideoKarma, which is where I want to go.

I can tell you that I found a way to get in through your .net domain. I can log in, but that's about it. Please help! I can't insure that any email message will get to me since I haven't been able to get one to you until hopefully this message gets to you.

Regards,

Greg Nevins

No luck still through my work PC. Ive tried clearing the cache and also tried different search engines and browsers, Im starting to think my work (LAN) may be firewalling my attempts to connect. One thing I will note is I cant connect to any site when I tried OPERA browser wich uses a proxy server I think,
None of the XP machines at work will connect to AK, Im not sure why but it just started 3 or 4 days ago. No problems here at home now, so I do my catching up at night.
Thank you AK Admin and staff !

Type 207.32.177.8 into the address bar and hit enter.

That is one of the things that I tried without success at work. I tried another XP computer at work (4:30PM E.S.T.) with the same results. The user of that PC has never looked at AK before (imagine that!) but I flushed his DNS anyway. We also tried to load AOL and search for AK, again, the same results. Actually the search results found the AK home page listing along with a bunch of recent threads but could not load any of them. It also found several mentions that "AK was down again" or "AK is down today".

When I got home this evening I fired up two XP computers and logged on immediately with no problems at all on either one. The Mac also works just fine as does the iPhone. One of the PCs is a brand new fresh reformat and re-install of XP. It has never seen the Internet before my successful attempt to log on tonight. The other one is the same one that I have been using for several years.

I don't have any real hands on experience with servers but I hope that somewhere in all that drivel there is a key to something that may help. It's a mystery to me.

If it's time to pass the hat again for new hardware or whatever, I'm in. Just say the word.

Thanks to all for working on the problem behind the scenes. :thmbsp: I'm sure that you would rather be doing something else at this time.

We found the problem and fixed it. It may take up to 72 hours to propagate, but it should be much sooner. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I learned the hard way what I should have known long ago through at least one college networking class; that is to look into every possibility before I start changing settings, or in my case using some rip off FREEware antivirus and registry cleaner. Yes, I made that one critical error and the download corrupted my registry and my machine was rendered useless. I also changed a lot of browser settings. DUMB! Every other site on the Web was working perfect and I over-react! Luckily the thing had a restore disk and I was able to mirror image my machine just as it was about a year ago. Unfortunately for me, I lost a lot of important email contacts and college related files that I should have backed up long ago. Frankly, I have never had a complete crash so I tend to not think about backing up my hard drive. The great thing is that a couple of small glitches are now gone and the machine runs much faster, so perhaps it was all meant to be.

The worst part is that I had been freaking out trying to find a way to get in touch with someone, anyone at VK or AK and it was nearly impossible. The admin. contacts all bear the AudioKarma.org domain, therefore the emails were getting kicked back due to the DNS problem at the server. YOU GUYS NEED A PHONE #! All symptoms here were indicative of what the problem really was, yet like a fool I still searched for answers within. The MAIN reason for the determination was the fact that my ISP and two members said that they could pull the site up fine. Now that I don't understand unless they were going to AudioKarma/VideoKarma.NET. you could go in that way, but could not search the forums.

Ya don't know what ya have until it's gone! I hardly got on the WWW since these sites have been down. It was terribly boring with the exception of hoping and praying last night that my computer was not ruined! I'm just so glad that this is getting resolved! :D

Yay! We're back.

The heck with waterboarding, just deny the terrorists access to AK! They'll be blubbering like a baby in no time.

This does leave me with an uneasy feeling about how dependent we've become on computers and the internet for things far more important.

Thank you for getting things fixed. There will be a red bar under my user name soon.

Great job getting everything back up and running !:thmbsp: I subscribed to show my support,,,,,, Thanks guys !

YES!:thmbsp: VK is back up now as well! I love both of these sites! Now I can enjoy the WWW again! Most people probably have a multitude of favorites that they can go to when AK or VK or down. I am a creature of habit unfortunately! Glad to be back! Thanks a ton to the support team!
