Improve speaker performance with bi-wiring?

While I don't know why it seems that when I bi-wired my speakers
( Infinity Beta 50 ) the soundstage opened up significantly with better
to my ears overall improvements...

Replacing the jumper straps and returning to just 1 speaker wire set
" closed down" colapsed the soundstage...speaker wire polarity is
right...

Those of you akers out there who know please tell me why in simple
terms.

This is a hotly debated topic about which there is much noise and little hard science.

As an engineer I would say that yours is a result I would not predict yet if it is a clear improvement in the real world (an "empirical result") then do it.
 
This issue peaks my interest as well. I currently have some speakers that are bi-wirable but I haven't fooled around with doing that with them yet.

It seems odd to me that such a simple technological question should have little empirical data to answer it one way or the other, but I know little about the whole issue. Still it should not be impossible (or even difficult) to determine whether there is a real positive fidelity effect to be had by hooking speakers up this way over the traditional way, or whether any perceived higher fidelity sound occuring from hooking speakers up this way is merely just a result of the placebo effect. There should be some demonstrable way to answer the bi versue single wire hookup superiority or inferiority, right?

Please if you are able time wise and amps have a and b speakerss...
please run a separate set of wires to woofer section (same type as
for upper range to avoid differences due to wire) but also remove
jumper straps and let us know your findings ...

Well can't bi-wire my NS-1000 but my NS-300 are bi-wirable, the sound definitely gets better, can't pinpoint the exact nature, just sounds good to my ears.
 
I've never been tried to bi-wire - I went straight to bo-amping the Infinity RS 2.5s.

Using 10 gage on the bass and 12 gage on the top.

I think bi-amping is really the way to go but hey, if your speaker has 4 posts why not play around and use 'em. I don't know if anyone is saying that it makes things worse!

I would suggest building your own cables just for fun and giving it a try. You can make some pretty awesome looking ( and decent sounding ) biwire cables for a lot less than $100.

I don't know if it's a step up or not but it's fun, cheap and isn't that what the hobby part of our passion is all about?
 
From the internet articles I've read, the science is supposed to be the reduced distortion effects from the woofer back EMF on the other drivers. Should be cleaner sound on the mids and highs supposedly. I guess different speakers will be impacted differently depending on xover design and a myriad of other reasons.

I've just tried biwiring my Quantum 2's, and I feel it did change things. The mids and highs are cleaner and the overall sound is easier listening. More in this thread over at the Infinity forum (links to many articles as well), http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=111077

kid----You might be bullshitting yourself. I've bullshitted myself and I've no doubt that others do the same. It's just in the nature of the hobby.

Unless you are spending crazy money on esoteric cables it can't hurt to give it a try. I have my HT speakers biwired and biamped and while there was not a huge difference for me it didn't hurt either so I've left it that way. More for fun than anything. I always give my friends some loopy BS answer when they ask why I have all those wires connected to my speakers. :D
