So the Betas netted out somewhere around $600? That's worth about as many dancing 'naners as you want! Seriously good "scroe", indeed! :thmbsp:
I always hesitate to even test out really good speakers first, beyond visual examination and a simple meter test, or a small DC battery test to see woofer cones move. I'm not comfortable with the idea of someone hearing the sound of something they're about to sell, and suddenly realizing how good they sound. People can change their mind about letting something go, and/or can raise prices, after being reminded firsthand of just how good the thing sounds. Besides, I'm used to buying things here in the wholesale market, where generally everything is "as is, untested". I figure that speakers like this can always be repaired (although admittedly repairs to something like the big EMIMs can be a bit of a costly challenge!). Still, I'd have bought it un-tested. So far I've been very lucky with such purchases; even when things didn't work, they've been repairable and I've still come out ahead on price/value.
I think the piece of furniture actually looks pretty decent (assuming it is solid wood. I'm guessing cherry wood? Hard to tell from pics on my laptop). I might have tried to get that thrown in the deal, even if it ended up in a garage or somewhere, but agree that the rest of the stuff was best passed up on. You got by far the real value in the whole thing (considering the Thorens wasn't cheap).
Again, CONGRATULATIONS! :thmbsp:
