My condolences on your loss. I suspect a lot of these estate sales are due to the fact that the kids are grown and gone and cannot return to deal with such things personally, for various reasons. In at least a few cases, I suspect it is because the entire family is gone, due to some vehicular tragedy or something of that sort. Most of the estate sales I have been to are not run by the family members, but rather by a professional estate sale company, generally engaged by the executor, be that a family member or an executor appointed by a probate court. They get a percentage of the sale as their profit. Family members do not have to even be at the sale; I'm pretty sure I would not want to be if I were in that situation. In my case, my father is gone and left no estate, my mother lives in a nursing home, also sans estate. My mother-in-law was living with us when she passed last year, leaving nothing but some clothes and jewelry. My wife's father died when she was a young girl. I at least will not face that issue in the future, there are no 'estates' to be liquidated, everyone is gone or has none to leave.
There is some pretty nice stuff there. Table saw, radial arm saw, nice furniture, dishes, refridgerator, freezer, TV's. I am going to throw away all the personal items and whoever buys the house is going to get the rest of it.
Just my attitude about the whole deal. I would rather give it away.
But, I can see your point about somebody out of town
contracting it out so to speak. Nothing wrong with that.

They could've received those as a gag gift... All I could make out from the pic was the whip and I was wondering what you were on about.
My yard sale'ing buddy and I were at a local restauranteur's estate sale. He was still alive and a middle aged man by then. He had been quite the man about town.
So it's the kind of sale where you just walk thru the completely furnished house.
My buddy pulls open the night stand drawer and pulls out a large dildo. He set it down on the nightstand. He was one to find the embarassing chink in other's armor!

That's not an S&M whip. That is actually a bull whip, but yes, those are handcuffs in with it. Yes, the sales company should have separated them.
I see quite a few things at that sale that would resell well so long as they company hasn't over priced them. Believe it or not, my wife has made a LOT of money off old trophies. That I don't get, but they have sold well for her.
Picture number 4 is old instruments.. .I see a flute or two, a sax, a trombone, and not sure what else. Didn't look that close. I've bought those at sales and so long as they were in good functioning condition,, gave them to my brother who was a band director so he could give them to a student that needed an instrument. Schools will take them as donations too so long as they are in good working order.
As far as having an estate sale, many places in the midwest do it as an estate auction. Everything gone in a day. My wife and her siblings did that after her parents passed. They took all they wanted, then sold the rest. It's better than throwing everything out.. .I'm sure people will enjoy picking through all my stuff when I'm gone looking for a bargain.. It's just the way it is, and I accept that.
