Someone should grab these. Sadly my funds have been going into car repairs. Not mine, no affil.

One of my buddies picked these up yesterday morning. The tweeters are not working so we have to pull them out and take a peek. The owner replaced the original drivers with seas drivers a while back. He said he asked around somewhere and the replacments are very close to the factory ones. Il know more when he brings them over. He picked them up for a whole lot less that the guy was asking.

this will die soon enough so

Pair Hanson Zylberberg Monitor Stereo Speakers-Audiophile Grade - $200

00O0O_1zAN7KumKT1_600x450.jpg

Hanson Zylberberg was an Ontario speaker manufacturer in the 1980's. Original price 1600. Description: The Hansons employ rare and excellent Dynaudio D28 tweeters between 6.5" woofers, rear ported. The back of the speakers have bi-wire terminals that only accept banana plugs. These speakers have black wooden pedestal stands threaded to the underside of the speakers (that can be sand or lead shot filled). They weigh around 60 lbs each. The speaker cabinet dimensions are 28 inches in height, 15 inches deep and 9 inches wide. With the bolted pedestal stands the overall height is 40 inches. These speakers have a rating of 89db at one watt and they can take a maximum of over 250 watts per channel."

Circa 1980. The two woofers SEAS H352 P17RCY 6.5"have been replaced (upon recommendation by Madison Sound) with new Scan-Speak Vifa P17WJ-00-08 6.5'' which are virtually identical in specs to the originals as you can easily confirm by looking at the accompanying photos.

I was in contact with this guy
Supposedly "2nd in line"
**** went sideways
Got Weird

But if the tweeters arent working
If blown..probably $100 to replace

The vifa p17 are very good midrange with slightly more bass than even better midrange p13
From what Ive read

And ive read while they are very similar they are not exact drop in replacements
One has slightly higher spl ?

What that means for the crossover?
No idea. Maybe simple
Maybe fine as-is.

Felt like I got the runaround from him
Or attempting to start a bidding war

Lets see the internals!
Hopefully the tweeters just need to be slapped around

When i get a look at them i will post some pics. Hopefully they are not all hacked up. My buddy who bought them has a ton of gear and is no newbie to buying used equipment. Somehow he gets gear for a lot less then i do. If i find somthing i want i bring him with me these days hahah. He talks people down very well. I dont know if there willing to go so cheap because he a smooth talker or they just want him to stop talkimg and leave hahhaha. But whatever it works

My buddy brought these speakers over so we can check out the tweeter issue. The tweeters both do work and ohm out right around 5 ohms when removed from cabinet. The signal doesnt pass through the first cap on the tweeter xover. So a simple recap is in order. The letering on the original caps is about gone so i am not sure of the values. I couldnt find much on these speakers well alone a circuit diagram. If anyone knows the values of the caps on the xovers that would be very helpfull. Also the repalcement drivers look to be worlds better than the originals.

Hanson-Zylberberg is long long gone

I have two pairs on their best RST-IV version of the Hanson Monitor...Which have outboard crossovers
One pair is all original..the other I got without crossovers but copied my original pair's crossovers.

Dynaudio D-28 diaphragms may still be available,,if not they do show up on Ebay.
I have an extra tweeter for mine..
I am very familiar with the Vifa P-17WJ00-08 drivers and have several for projects..
While they look similar to the SEAS unit they are not the same.
The SEAS are more compliant and will produce better bass.
The Vifa's suffer from the surrounds stiffening up due to age.

In any case they are a decent speaker..and require stand mounting...They did come with a bolt on sand fillable stand.

Matt...tubeornotube

BTW they were built in Toronto..where Lloyd Naftolin resides..I have met him

Company is still in business, have you contacted them?

I was able to read the values. The text stuck to the glue that was holding them down when i removed them. For the tweeter xover it has a 7uf and 18uf capacitor. Should be pretty straightforward.
