Is a Crossover needed for full range woofers?

Thank you for the replies everyone. I am interested in the Dayton PS-220 8 inch drivers. My only concern is I will be using a Carver M1.0t amplifier that puts out 200 watts RMS into 8 ohm speakers... these Daytons are rates at 40 watts max power because they are very efficient. I hope by using this amp I don't cook these...
Well -- that's kind of the wrong-est combination imaginable, but, realistically, you should be fine. If you can aurally stand to be in the room with them, you'll likely not be putting more than 10 watts (peak) into them.

Bowers & wilkins 602 S2. Crossver Board. Guys I have replaced induction coil .9mH, I cant source 1.8ohm 7W ceramic resistor, is it ok to replace with 10W 2.2ohm???

I have a them. They are driven near field by a 300B SET. Fantastic speakers. I am new to this, just got the bug, but do listen to a bunch at the dealers and nothing I prefer for musical near field. They replaced some ML 35XT, and no disrespect, to the ML, but are a different class.

I'm on AK as I was testing / comparing with amps and other speakers just yesterday and the guy I was buying the Vandies from who is a big AudioKarma fan and convinced me to join. He knows a lot more than me, or was just being nice when he also complemented these. We compared several speaker/amp combos. If you like vocals, cello, great separation and detail (amp gets credit) these are great. I use a sub sometimes, and not others. Hard to say. They have good lows. We later ran Klipsh Forte and those are big and exciting. But very different.
