Is Amazon Ultra HD up-sampled?

Just saying upsampling to "your" systems capabilities would not be hard and can probably be done by the AWS as it heads to you.

I seem to recall this topic has come up before lol.
My dac hooked to windows always shows 192 but I don't think it has the capability to read the file in real time. It says 192 even when nothing playing.
Here is a pic of what Amazon says it's playing on windows 10. No obvious up sampling.
I am only getting engaged because I don't want my preferred underdog music service getting a bad rap. Lol

This is a related, but very different issue. We're talking about how masters that were submitted to Amazon, through an aggregator, somehow are being presented on Amazon at a higher bitrate/sample rate than they were originally.

Also a different issue. There's a whole Pandora's box of issues with Windows and iOS and how they handle files.
I would love if we could could keep this discussion on the one issue, at least until it gets resolved somehow.

I know. Just answered the Up sample charge based on the old quote. Without the proper context it would support your alleged Up sampling by Amazon. Did you guys absolutely and 100% take the aggregator out of the equation?

It is not just alleged. Quite clear that Amazon is presenting it as UHD.

If I were Amazon, and wanted to upsample on the fly, I'd do it at the playback end. Internet bandwidth and processing does cost, when you are streaming millions of files...

Might have to start a new thread for this experiment. Doesn't fit the threads objective of getting to the bottom of the upsampling. But could be very interesting though.

Sorry, I’ve been MIA on this thread. I did contact tunecore support (which is notoriously bad) asking very specifically if they upsample or add bit depth, and just got a canned response directing me to their article on uploading. I will try again. I did get a reply from CD Baby, and they plan to offer 24bit capability “soon”.
 
Still nothing on this? Did the manager of the band ever reach out to the aggregators or chime in in any way? Seems like that would be the person that would have to get to the bottom of this since they posted the files

On a side note, I recently dumped Amazon Unlimited because the app just sucks and I was sick of it. For a dollar more, Tidal is much better.

I would guess they are doing one or the other. It was mentioned in this thread that some of the players just say 24/192 on everything, regardless of what it's really streaming. I suppose somebody could find out by monitoring the bitrate while streaming on their computer (and making sure no other apps/processes are using the network). If it's under 9216kbps, then they're full of ****....

Maybe ask Amazon? Would be tough but with persistent effort you could eventually get a real person to respond.
