Is Amazon Ultra HD up-sampled?

An acquaintance released a CD a couple months ago. It was just added on Tuesday to all the streaming services, AMHD has it as HD content 16/44.

Not sure how this helps the discussion other than a recording I am very familiar with is only offered on AMHD in the format it was released in.

Edit: it was recorded live in studio to tape with no processing other than the board in the control room.

Thanks for this attempt! But I fear that the subtleties of this issue may be difficult for the regular customer service agent to grasp.

It would require more effort than I am willing to do. They responded with a request to use phone or chat to resolve issue. Certainly an option for someone with all the relevant info but a waste of time for me.

It's worth the effort if you really want to get to the bottom of the issue. Get the right person and they can probably see what the file size was actually uploaded to Amazon.

After thinking about this post the only conclusion can be is that Amazon doesn't up sample the files. If it was standard practice this album would also be up sampled.
After reading the Tunecore Link from a previous post they seem really keen on the file being 24/192.

I just read through that Tunecore page again. It sounds like they are saying that if your files are in not in 24/192, you should just up-sample them in iTunes.

If you are exporting from a recording program or importing (also known as "ripping") the audio from a CD into iTunes, you can change the settings of your export to be .wav, 24 bit (sample size), 192 kHz (sample rate), 1411 kbps (bit rate), stereo mode (Recommended) or .wav, 16 bit (sample size), 44.1 kHz (sample rate), 1411 kbps (bit rate), stereo mode (Accepted, but not recommended).

They also say, that they recommend 24/194, but also accept 11/44.1. So maybe they up-sample those ones themselves?

  1. Be sure your audio files are in the following recommended format: .wav, 24 bit (sample size), 192 kHz (sample rate), 1411 kbps (bit rate), stereo mode
    1. We also accept files in the following format: 16 bit (sample size) with 44.1 kHz (sample rate), 1411 kbps (bit rate), stereo mode

I guess what this means is that some of Amazon's (and other's) "Hi Def" tracks are just up-sampled Redbook files?

Interesting. I assumed there was an error somewhere in the process because Amazon has a ton of HD (44.1) music, so it wouldn't be their normal practice.

Perhaps but if it sounds good who cares. Seems unlikely that one would be able to find out for each album if it's up sampled.

When a 24 bit album is done correctly it sounds Amazing. I am a big hi res fan!
