is this a good Oscilloscope

A friend of mine has a B&K Precision Dual Trace Oscilloscope Model 1472c . I was wondering if this would be good for me to start with , and if not what would be?

Looks like a decent, basic scope...probably easier to use than most, and a good starter scope.

Looking at audio signals isn't exactly very taxing for a scope...it ought to be fine.

Know that good probes start at about $45 each and go up from there. Hopefully the one you're looking at includes probes.

I am a Collector of Scopes and want to give you this tip:
One of the best looking Scopes for a small money is a Tektronix-Type-422.
It`s also 15MHz, but when you open both you will find the golden different from a Tek to any other.

I picked up a B&K 1477 off of CL for $40 a few months ago, so to me $100 also seems high...unless it includes probes. Two sets of better-quality probes, new, would be around $60.

(But I'm a tightwad, and I'm older and I remember when I could buy a month of groceries for $100...) And I agree the Tek scope is the gold standard for scopes.

Realistically, though, dropping $100 on the B&K if it's in excellent working condition and includes a probe set or two, could be better than taking one's chances on a Fleabay scope.

The section on adjusting probes helped me figure out I had a bad probe attachment which caused me much frustration. :sigh:

I still don't know how to do more than very very basic stuff, and even then I'm not confident. What would be best is to set with someone doing what you want to do with it and pick their brain along the way.
