Is Vintage Audio about Poverty or Appreciation?

Sorry, I disagree with you on both counts.
1. Your first statement is your opinion.
2. I am not crazy or otherwise not in my right mind because I don't agree with your bombastic statement.
3. I will say excellent quality exists within both camps but then again, I didn't think another VS. topic was the intention of the thread.
4. My wife sometimes says I'm crazy but my shrink just keeps asking me if I think I'm crazy.
Of course it is just my opinion. I don't represent AES here, I'm just a regular Joe.

I really don't care if Germans (or anyone anywhere else) think I'm poor because I like vintage gear, preferably made in USA gear. I think if you like another country or state more than where you're currently living then you should move there. Having served in the USMC and living in various parts of the world and meeting interesting people, realized that I prefer the USA to nowhere else.
My preferred music format is live, with vinyl being my second favorite, then iPod.
My mortgage is paid in full, no credit card debt, a fully-funded 401k and pension, paid for kids college with a 529 College Bound fund and paid for my college degree with the GI Bill. Own 3 cars, newest is a 2010 model, the 1998 and 1986 both run great and are maintained by me and I know how to work on them and have the tools. That does not make me poor. I do need everybody else to keep working and funding my retirement, so I can listen to my vintage vinyl on my vintage gear, smiling.

Yes but dedicated audio stores are considered rare boutiques now.
Nowhere near the number of stores in the 1960s - mid 80s.
I wish more hi-fi stores existed, every-time I visit
a new city, I usually check to see if they have one/two
for a side-visit.
About as rare as drive-in theaters in some parts of this country.

I think that Edriz's point was that all units from cheap to expensive was built with quality in mind.
Today we have low quality for the masses in big box stores and high quality modern gear for the connoisseur.
That's why some of us are looking for the vintage gear so "the poor guy can finally get rich"
Nothing could be further from the truth. The cheap crap was just as cheap and crappy as anything made today. Likely worse. All the Lloyd's and Candle stuff has long since hit the trash pile. And there was much more of that then SX-1980 and AU-717's.

Are you comparing LLoyds and Candle with todays Best Buy ie Mainstream equipment or is there an equvilent to LLoyds today ? I don't think Edriz was even thinking LLoyds when he made his statement .
