Sarge from Combat was so much cooler. Being a John I identified with Little John until I was older and realized that carrying a BAR around by yourself was just stoopid. Like Roland, I’d take that Thompson. Runs in the family. My son carried the SAW in his 8 man fire team in the sand box. That put him in charge of the 12 ga door opener and the HMV gunner. Besides being the smallest, he was the fastest and won most of the LeMans starts getting to the couple HMV’s with a .50 first.

Only once, but it was with my beaded cowboy belt, meh. “The Swat Heard ‘Round the World” was from Mr Danks, 9th grade PE, my bare-ass vs. his practiced 2 step, fast pitch softball windmill delivery with a size 20 Converse.

Kinda sad thing is, getting hit by my Dad was the earliest thing that I remembered. Even after all the things we did together, I don't think that I'll ever forget.

SOP in 1969, don’t make it weird. You obviously are younger. Only took one treatment to see the wisdom of not fighting in PE. It was my first year of public school after 8 years of Catholic School. I was fresh meat and needed to prove myself when my locker partner/bully kneed me in flag football. It was acquired behavior from my 2-3 prior career fights. Those were all with public school kids and the damn uniform taunting. The bully “chose me off” to a fight behind Zody’s after school. He didn’t show. Mission accomplished.

I’m 70, technically I was protected by my jock strap. The shoe stung worse than the usual paddleball paddles or so I was told. Jock strap checks were routine in PE anyway. 5 dress violations or missed showers would flunk you. Nobody wanted to flunk PE.
