Japanese Cartridges Shipped from China?

Killer Fox

I noticed on an auction site some nice Japanese cartridges at good prices shipped from Hong Kong. Are these legit or counterfeits? Why are they shipped from China?

2juki has a solid rep, been a good source for cartridges since the early 2000's as far as I remember. At one time he had a nice selection of some Benz and Ortofon. His offerings will change over time, if you see what you like buy it sooner than later. Cause it will be gone later.

Shipping from Hong Kong and shipping from China are not the same thing (even though Hong Kong is now part of mainland China).

Different beast.

If you do a search you might also find an AK thread re retipped Japanese cartridges listed on Ebay by a seller from China, all I can say is buyer beware. Hong Kong is another story with long established sellers with excellent items and feedback to match.

Google is your best friend.
Just google Hong Kong and read up on its history.

My point was it isn't shipped from the originating country, so I was skeptical. Fakes could easily be shipped from Hong Kong. I was just checking on the legitimacy, not trying to show off my history or geography knowledge. If it were being shipped from Korea or Taiwan I would ask the same question. In fact, most clones of cell phones are manufactured and shipped from Hong Kong.

Thank you Mr. Pig and ripblade.

HK might be a fence for mainland goods, borrowing on good rep. I've seen junk arrive DOA from California. As a sales tactic, it works.

All I'm saying is buying and shipping from China is not the same as buying and shipping from Hong Kong. Nothing more and nothing less. And, I wasn't questioning your geography knowledge. Your post looked to me that you were under the impression that Hong Kong and China were one and the same. They're not, in many aspects.

Didn't mean to upset you.

Cheers.

Your skepticism is not unreasonable
Vet each seller on an individual basis
If you can't then it is a gamble
Some good, some not so much

No worries. Thanks for the clarification.

I ordered an AT440MLa cartridge from 2juki a few months ago, so I'll be happy to share my experience:

Shipping speed: Phenomenal

Shipping method: Upon order confirmation, I received an email from the seller, saying they had shipped the package labeled as "gift" to avoid import taxes. I was not happy to hear that, based on comments I read in forums saying that the recipient of falsely labeled commercial goods can be held liable for customs/tax fraud. In the end it worked out fine.

The cartridge arrived in good packaging, and in what appeared to be a genuine box. I did notice the cantilever was slanted outward ever so slightly. No biggie, just noticed it. As this was my first cartridge purchase, I can't speak to whether this reflects normal range of product variability, or whether 2juky sells factory seconds (?) I guess for someone who is very picky, they might keep in mind that exchanges could be a bit more tricky due to the international transactions.

So far, the cartridge has performed fine.
