It parallels Soft Machine and others . . . I would consider it progressive jazz rock fusion.

The Stanley Clarke Band (2010)
I love Stanley's music, his trademark Alembic guitar, upright, piccolo etc. and while I don't love every album he has done, this particular recording from 2010 included some heavy hitters that were somewhat new to me, bringing a fresh injection of classic fusion to where ever music had been leading SC since the RTF days. A very good album, IMHO

Wishful Thinking - 1985 - Wishful Thinking
Jazz Rock seemed to have lost it's way around this era, some artists were relevant, yet remaining obscure, Wishful Thinking was one of them, they were JazzRock, with perhaps a hint of what would become Smooth Jazz, luckily, the performances of Dave Shank(Vibes), Jerry Watts Jr.(bass), and Chris Boardman (keys), David Garibaldi (drums), and Tim Weston on (Guitars) deliver the goods, while the music is not heavy, it's quite tasty.
