JBL L50 Small Foam Strip Inside Grill Cover

Can anyone tell me what the deteriorating foam strip inside my JBL L50 grill cover is for? Should I repair it? Thank you - Mark

That's inside the upper portion of the grill, adjacent to the tweeter and midrange, right?

If so, it's probably a diffuser, reducing diffraction of high frequencies by the grill structure.

I'd replace it with some sort of open cell foam, if that's the case.

Correct it is. Interesting it wraps about 1/2 way down on each side. Thanks again for the info I'll hunt up some foam.
