To me it seems to fit the story that they were only produced for photo shoot (if that is correct). In that case they are more properly called non-production models or something, not limited edition.

Price seems ridiculous to me -- but I'm not a collector and wouldn't pay much more than price a regular set of L60Ts.

They are in the 1987-88 price sheets. The serial number could have been a sticker on the id plate or the terminal cup and is now gone?

"Limited Edition" doesn't seem to fit here. Maybe there is a brochure floating around somewhere that claims otherwise.

Yes, the serial numbers were just paper stickers on the input cups. They keep trying to fall off all of my L/T series JBLs.

Rare because they didn't make many of them. Didn't make many of them because for $210 more you could buy the much better L80TBQ–or for $60 less, the arguably superior L20TBQ. I often see the first motorcycle I ever owned advertised as the rarest of the BMW /5 series. It didn't have enough horsepower to get out of its own way in the mountains. For $200 more when new you could jump 100cc and have a usable bike. No wonder no one (except me) bought one! I was young and ignorant. Later, when I got the chance, I went with the larger-displacement version.

Haha...no wonder it prompted this thread. I found this thread because I was researching it after picking up a pair with missing woofers for $40 on CL last night. I happened to have a pair of 116H-2 woofers sitting around, so it’s perfect.
