I have a chance to pick up a pair of L75 Minuets in good shape for $40.00. Thoughts on real value. Thanks.

Run and get them now and worry about their real value after you've gotten them home! Seriously!!!

You will not be sorry! :thmbsp:

Just be sure and pop the grills off and check the full-rangers and passives, they should be similar to this:

After you get them home, please carefully inspect the surrounds before you attempt to use them. You do not want to take a chance on damaging the VC in those. They will quite likely be in need of new surrounds and I would suggest that you seriously consider having it done professionally by someone who will do it with the proper knowledge and materials. I think you might find yourself with something very special here.

Yes, looks just like yours. Definately needs new surrounds. When I went to pick them up, the lady said that another person called and said he would pay more for them. I was waiting for her to raise the price, but she took her 40 bucks and said thanks. :D

Very, very nice score! :thmbsp:

Okay, now for their real value as you have them in your possession. The last pair to have sold on eBay, which were in fairly poor shape, went for over $300. Feel better now? ;)

Yes, thanks. The cabs are really in not too bad of shape. A little sanding and staining and they would look close to new. Again the drivers and passive radiators will need new surrounds, grills in great shape. I've re-foamed dozens of speakers such as infinity, advent, ar's etc. I don't feel comfortable re-foaming these. They seem fragile compared to the old advents. Most likely, I will probably decide to flip these. Thanks for your help.

As I wrote before, find someone who has dealt with vintage JBL and knows what they are doing. There are folks here at AK that could likely help you (GordonW are you listening?). Don't be afraid to spend some $$ to get them up to snuff, especially if your plan is to flip them. A hundred (or 2) spent now for a proper re-edge job will pay off handsomely. Just don't go nuts refinishing the cabs, the next owner likely might want to do that themselves. Clean them, get the drivers and passives repaired (correctly) and be patient. For your $40 initial investment, you have done swimmingly well thus far.

For future reference

Print this out and save it.

I just found a pair of JBL XXXXX on CL for (less than $100), are they worth it?

Answer : If they were made before 1975 and are in any reasonable kind of shape - YES!
