These resemble a pair of EGO speakers that I found on the street in Cambridge, MA, on trash day (though that pair was a 2-way design with 10-inch woofer and cone tweeter). The bizarre level controls are the same are the same design as the front-panel level control on the ones I had, and the cabinet design looks to be similarly heavy, and with the same mid-grade drivers.

I've never seen a pair before or since.
