JVC QL-7 Turntable; unstable speed

SO much for that same old blanket statement rhetoric repeated adnuseum, that all direct drive motors made before present day 2000 and whatever cog, thus sound like garbage, not serious designs like 'audiophile' belt drives.

I own a belt drive but without the ADS speed box it doesn't sound anywhere near as stable as my SL1210Mk5G or QL-7. I can't wait to get this project started and built. I still need to pick an arm, either the UA-7045 or something else, SME-309, VPI 3D, etc.

@ Totem, that is a seriously nice looking plinth for that drive. lt's sitting there looking like it means serious business,..real old school substantial. Which arm you thinking of using with it? Or is it 'arms'?

How about a aftermarket mat for these. Anyone have any recommendations for model, size, measurements, thickness, affect on the sound, etc ?

The OEM rubber mat and deer skin mat that were supplied originally work quite well, that said others
have tried copper and alike.

Or is it 'arms

This plinth takes 9", 10" and 12" arms, currently have an SME III for high compliance and an SME 3012 series I low compliance
carts.
The 9" mount is on the left rear just visible and a tight fit due to the TT-101's outer bevel.

Sweet, 2 arm mounting with the ability to swap and choose between 3 arms. I'd like to try a SME 309 with the VTA on-the-fly mod and the TT-101.

Has anyone here experimented with a periphery ring on the TT-101? I'm curious to see if it would fit and if the sound quality would benefit from increased coupling of LP to platter/drive?
