JVC SK-404 speakers, opinions?

I can't believe ANY speaker produced is not mentioned somewhere in these pages, but I can't find any mention of the JVC SK-404. Pair for sale near me that come with a receiver I'd like, wondering if the speakers are any good.

They are later 3 ways 12" cone mids and tweets dont look like real wood,I see a pair up in canada for 175$ nothing collectable

They were the sort of speakers sold when someone was buying a set of JVC components and they wanted speakers to match. I don't think they're rack system speakers, but TBH they don't look much better than that. They don't add much to the value of the package (receiver+speakers).

Often times lack of info means a product is rare or from a different country.
That or they're not really worth writing about....I'm guessing this is the case.

They're paired up with a Yamaha R-500 receiver. I'd mention the price for the package so anyone could qualitatively state that it was a good matchup for the price, or the receiver alone was worth the price, or run and get it and don't ask questions, but the rules (which I vehemently disagree with) won't permit it.

If you go into the paid Barter town, back alley pub and some others you can mention price. best 25$ spent IMHO
all the older receivers most need work

If you ask in the proper section, Dollars and Sense, there should not be a problem.
Unless you are asking about something you are going to sell.

I remember the smaller brothers; JVC sk-101 and sk-303. They had very low quality cone tweeters and midranges, small magnet, small voice coil woofers. I wouldn't cross a real busy street for them.

I picked up a pair of 505 from the garbage two years ago! Should I throw them away and buy something else? Sound Dynamics RTS 3 for 75 CAN or JBL L1 for 150?

Depends. Do you like the 505's?
If you don't, maybe see if you can listen to the other speakers you mentioned. And then buy or pass depending on what your ears say.

It is hard to tell how speakers will sound in my space, especially when buy second-hand with no return. I know the 505 sounds better than the previous pair because I picked then from the garbage and compared with the predecessor side by side.
