I found a pair of KEF 104/2 in good condition. I have not heard them yet. Can anyone let me know their opinion. The seller is asking $600 and I am unfamiliar with the speakers. Thanks!

Keep looking, you can find these for much less if you take the time to look. Nice speakers be sure to check the surrounds.

One of the few speakers ive owned that I regret selling, I moved up the chain so to speak and moved on, but the 104\2 is a phenomenal sounding and built speaker.

The build quality is outstanding, some of the best fit and finish of any speaker ive personally owned, with the beautiful book matched veneer and heavy build quality.

As others will mention, check if they have the butyl or foam surrounds, and check the donut style dust covers on the woofers, as these along with the surrounds if foam, are quite the job to repair, as you pretty much have to disassemble the speaker to make these repairs, well worth the effort 104/2 are exceptional sounding speaker's.

Price depending on your area might be a tad high, but overall condition will determine that, in my area nice mint ones, average around 400 to 500.

These are awesome, mine have the butyl surrounds, but most will need the donuts redone (mine does). You can look in the port with a flashlight and see the donut in middle of the woofer and the surround, that should tell you whether all 4 need to be redone. Also, the tweeters use the ferrofluid, you can buy this anywhere, but it is a bit of work to do it. It is documented on this site. I'd work the seller down after pointing out what they need. Good luck. They really sound sweet when they are right.

I also came across a pair of Monitor Audio Gold Reference 20. Is there a preference between KEF and Monitor Audio Gold Reference 20?
