KEF 107 Refoam

I did mine a couple years ago. If you are even reasonably "DIY" oriented, and take reasonable care, redoing the surrounds is no problem at all. Pulling the drivers out of the cabinet is the hardest part, you remove the top one through the top panel, and the lower one from the bottom... a lot of Phillips head screws, but nothing hard. The foam inside is all cut to fit, and isn't glued in place, so that's not even a problem, with no annoying fiberglass to get in your skin either!
A kit, including the little "doughnut" dust caps, shims, and glue are available on ebay for, I want to say $75-85, but it's been a while, so I'll just say "under $100.

...Oh, and BTW, when you get them back together, do yourself a favor, and spray a little contact cleaner in the DIN plug going from the "head" to the cabinet & work the connectors on & off a few times. I've had a little distortion show up, that i thought was a failing cap, and it turned out to be those connectors. A little cleaning, and they are good as new!

Well, after YEARS of serious procrastination, I've disassembled my 107's. Seems the woofers were re foamed at some point, and the guy didn't do a very good job at all. As near as I can tell, the foam ring is a tad too big for the basket, and the glue job is piss poor. And oh, what else? There are no foam donuts on any of the woofers....not a one. Also found some of the thick grey foam pieces glued to the box. Cute.
Looking forward to sinking my teeth into this starting on Sunday after the presents, Football, and food.
I took pics in case anyone is interested.

Sorry to read that, but frankly, as long as the surrounds seal air, and allow the cone to move freely, everything else is just cosmetic... fortunately you can't see those on a 107!

Also, since the woofers face down in that application, the little "donut" dust covers are pretty unnecessary.

Unless you're as OC as I am, you could just leave them as is if they are working. ...me, I'd have to go through them & make them "right" - even if it really isn't necessary.
