Less than an hour to go... somebodies gonna get a deal if they stay at $800. Even with shipping of ~$300-$400, these are a deal at this price!

Yeah Bart, the shipping is tough, but I think I spyed the original boxes off to the side in one of the photo's. Still, 30 year old cardboard better be re-enforced!

And the price got up there a bit, but yeah, anything close to $1500 delivered is probably not bad. I do think they probably need a refoam, so add $400 in for that. I'd say $2000 for a fully functional (ie; repaired) complete set with the KUBE is about right.

The thing I like about this set is the finish looks good and the "book matching" of the veneers has some real interesting features. I've come to realize that some 107's are a little more "handsome" than others. These look like they would "show the grain" really nicely with a little finishing! :thmbsp:

I don't think $2K for Ser.1s, even refurbed & delivered, is particularly good. I don't even remember seeing any /2s going for that much. Surrounds only cost $85, and take a couple hours to DIY. Shipping is expensive, with 107s generally selling for $900-$1200 (less without the KUBE), I think around $1500 would be top dollar. I don't even think nice /2s would bring as much as $2k... even delivered.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea how many of the series 1s were made, compared to the /2s? I only ask, because it seems almost all the 107s I see for sale are series 1s. I wouldn't have thought there were that many less /2s, but judging by ebay, I guess they are not as common.

Maybe you're right... I have seen them on Audiogon for $2K fully restored, but that is probably top dollar. So I'll agree that $1500-1600 is maybe the going rate. And yeah, without the KUBE, more like $1000-$1200. KUBES are going for $300-$400 if you can find a Mk1 version.

As for the R107/2's, I think you may be right there, but tough to tell. Seems there are not that many that show up for sale.

The Museum lists 1986-1990 for the R107Mk1 but the 107/2 was built from 1990-1995, so there is an extra year of production. But maybe sales were tapering off and there was a smaller run built.

Interesting question though on the actual numbers. It would be nice to know that. I know my first pair are a 1000 serial number and my second pair are a 3000 serial number.

I think tonight I'll start a thread in the speaker section to try to document how high the serial ranges go. Good stuff Frommer! :thmbsp:
