Kenwood KA-7100 help

Hey guys, I'm new here and somewhat new to stereo gear. I just got a Kenwood KA-7100 and it would power up/ the light would come on when I did just a quick test.

When I hooked it up and got ready to listen to it, I flipped the switch and it shut off. I haven't been able to get it to come back on. I checked the fuses and they all appear to be good.

I am handy with a soldering iron and have replaced capacitors in a guitar amp before but have never worked on audio gear and I don't really know where/ what to test etc.

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated!!

best bet is check fuses with meter first as sometimes they dont look blown . then check the power switch is working . this can be done with power plug removed from the wall for your safety .
 
I went out and got myself a Klein multimeter and some new fuses. I threw the new fuses in and tried the amp, it still doesn't come on. I tested the switch with the meter as best I knew how and it seems good.

When I flip the switch on the light does not come on but if I listen very closely I can hear a faint humming coming from the transformer.

What should I do next??
 
set your meter on ac volts . one probe to shiny chassis the other probe to each of the fuses in turn .
report back with voltages .
they should all read 33v ac
fe1 ?
fe2 ?
fe3 ?
fe4 ?
 
I am not a hifi electronics guy but I am a (retired) electrician and have worked with lots of other types of electrical gear. From my experience I NEVER go replacing fuses without first finding the reason (or attempting to find) why the fuse blew in the first place. Generally fuses protecting electronic equipment don't just blow without a reason and often times replacing them without finding the reason runs the risk of further damage.
 
The fuses did not appear to be blown visually, I tested them and they were good but I had already bought new ones when I bought the multimeter so I figure I would go ahead and install the new one.

I turned the amp on and ran the ac voltage test on each fuse. All four fuses read 33 volts.
 
the led should be lit then .. if not its lost its connection or blown .
do you hear the speaker relay click a few seconds after switch on ?
 
You can connect your DMM to the ac cord contacts. Unplugged of course. Set the DMM to resistance or Continuity, if your meter has this feature. Press the power switch to the 'ON' position. You should either heard a buzz or read "0" on your meter if the switch is good. Of course leave the new fuses in their holder(s).
 
think we established switch is working with the 33v ac at fuses and 13v at led power .
just need more voltage readings to see what has happened .
 
find re 77 and get voltages for each end .
dc v
should be 47v one end 42v other end .
black probe to chassis

i hope pin 7 is negative ?
 
It took me a while to find it but I finally did.

One side of r77 is 39, the other side is 45

Also, I think I was testing pin 7 and 8 in the wrong place

Pin 7 is -26v
Pin 8 is 26v
